Title: What are these bits for ?? (a question about a quad frame)
Post by: CurryKitten on June 07, 2013, 03:22:19 PM
I'm building a super cheap quad at the moment - the frame is called an "Alien", it looks a bit like a TBS Disco frame, except it's built out of something not quite as strong as tissue paper.

Anyhoo, I've ended up with some bits left over, which I *think* is for dampening a camera, but I'm not sure.  The front of the frame looks like this, and I've got this spare little rectangle which matches the front, and 4 of these dampener whatsits.

I thought the way they were intended to sit is like this, with the two frame bits sandwiching the dampeners and (hopefully) creating a dampened platform, like this -

If thats the case, then are they supposed to be screwed, or glued, or something else.... or have I got the wrong end of the stick entirely, and these are for something else ?

I think you slot the rubber dampners into the base then do the same for the top plate, no screws needed  ;)

John.

ah - well, that was another thought I had, but I wasn't sure if the slots might have been for that or for looping rubber bands around.  Let me have a go at slotting stuff in

's exactly how they work, slot in. Hence the two narrow sections. Just a double grommet.
Cheers, Mark.

You can also hang that 'floating' bit underneath (for example to add a brushless gimbal) but then you'd also need legs for ground clearance... :)

Sorry - I should have updated to say it's all attached now.  It actually seems pretty good - the movement isn't too soft, but will move independantly of that frame.  It's only going to carry a little 808 for it's first try though.  If it ever stops raining, I'll find out if it does anything

If you mount keychain only I would suggest to use only 3 rubbers instead of 4...make it bit more soft ?...

I'll give it some testing, my 808 seems jello free on my mini quad, but is very prone to it on anything bigger, so I may swap over to something else anyway
