Title: TBS Caipirinha - UK stockist?
Post by: Andy Sayle on June 10, 2013, 12:58:43 PM
Hi Folks,

Does anyone know if the TBS Caipirinha is available from any UK based stockists?  I quite like the look of them, it would fit perfect on the parcel shelf of the car for impromptu flights....

And, does anyone know what size FPV cameras fit in the premoulded recess?

Andy

Pretty much any camera will fit in the recess, either completely drop in or with a very small amount of adjustment so don't worry about that. And yeah it fits on the parcel shelf very easily :)

I maidened mine yesterday. I had so much fun that by the 3rd pack I was doing flights through the goal posts at top speed. And I had so much fun that I went into full kamikaze mode and ended up stuffing it into the ground....Must remember not to have so much fun next time.

Yep LOVE mine, excellent fun and fly really good. Do not use the bunny ears though. I found they wag about a bit with these.

I can report that the TBS webshop is bloody annoying.  I've been trying to place an order for the last half an hour, and getting nowhere fast.  I can add stuff to a basket, and choose the express shipping.  Great.  I can enter my shipping details, and I can hit proceed.  Can I work out how to pay the guys?  Nope.  I have had 5 confirmation of order emails, and not one of them, nor one page on their website tells me how to get a paypal payment to them!

Maybe it's a sign telling me not to get a Caipirinha afterall....

TBS website has an order cap. When they get too many orders you can't order again.

Stupid really, means you have to wait around for the cap to go away.

Better to just have a variable delivery date. When X orders give the customer a X day wait. So at least you can order and pay and get your name on the short list.

It doesn't say that on their site anywhere that is obvious?  Bloody stupid system if you ask me.  If they can't, or don't want to take the orders from people, why are they still allowing items to be added to a cart, details to be entered, and sending out confirmation emails?  Yet at no point do they say there is an order cap, or provide links for payment.

I'm half tempted to sack the idea off, and build something else instead....

Ritewing Mini Zephy is pretty damn awesome mate to say the least. I have got some nice GoPro / FPV mount that go on the front. Can either email you the DXF file to cut one out or get one sorted for you.

The Mini Zephyr also runs great on the AXN motor and goes like stink. Best thing is that you get a good 15-20 mins flight time from a 2200Mah 3s!!!

Take a look at this:

Sorry you mis-understand. When the cap is in place you cannot make a new order. So if you have ordered it and got a confirmation e-mail then I believe you are all good.

Ah, right, if I get the confirmation email, then they should be accepting orders.  It's just odd that I can't find any way at all to make a payment to them!  There is no link in the email, nothing on their website, nothing when I was filling in my details for the order, nothing!  I've put a post on the order cap thread on FPVlab, so I think Trappy is looking into it now.

I'll look into the Mini-Zeph though, it looks like a similar type of model!  I was just taken by the premoulded compartments for all the usual gear on the TBS offering.  It should allow even me to make a decent job of the build!

Mini Zeph is a small wing, that is the only resemblance in my opinion.

TBS wing is EPP, lighter, stronger, more durable. Also pre-moulded will go together in very little time.

The Zeph mini wing is an after thought and requires much more building to get in the air.

Ouch! What the hell happened there??

Sorry to see it go to the big winged graveyard in the sky buddy. It looked to be flying quite well.

I was using a really crap camera and my picture was very dark. that's why I hit the ground the first time.

so I decide to do a double roll and got the ground and the sky mixed up. I thought I had completed two turns and was gonna pull out but I was upside down and so I just hit the ground.

I always thought acrobatics was no fun in fpv, but a plane like this turns so quick in the air and maintains alot if airspeed that's flying like a hooligan is great fun.

deciding whether to get a replacement airframe now or just sell the electronics on.

A glue gun, ca and tape are your friends.

I have caused similar injuries to my caipirinha and since it was either the bin or the bin I had a go at budging it back together.

It looks like frankencaipi but it still flies, so might be worth 15mins effort?

At last, order placed, and payment successfully, er, paid!  Fingers crossed it won't take months to get here now :)

Does anyone happen to know the dimensions of the battery bay as standard?  I'm looking at using a 3s pack if possible and motor/prop to suit....

Actually the Mini Z is the wingtips that make the ZII the ZXL, they have the same airfoil as the Capi.  The Mini Z has been around in cad design for a year or so longer than the Capi.

The Capi  in its essence is my 36 Ritewing Lightning that's been around forevvvveeer.
I worked with Trap to make it designed to fit a go pro.  The capi is 36  the Mini Z is 31 WS, their wing area is almost the exact same.
Epor is lighter than EPP usually and much stiffer.
I did do some Epor in higher dencity and their mite be a few out there in the higher dencity .

Here are some pix for some stimulation.  Capi being the youngling of the group.
The Mini was never designed specifically for FPV in mind but seems to be pulling it off with mods done. I had some extra room in the mold with the wingtips so we made a quick blunt section to make a fun little wing.

The Capi is a great little plane and so is the Mini Z is too and its not after thought by any means.

Just had "that" call from the wife.  You know the one, it goes along the lines of:

Ring Ring
me: hello
wife: what the f*** have you been buying this time?
me: errrrrr
wife: another big box that looks expensive
me: errrrrr
wife: it looks foreign too, I bet the postage was a fortune
me: (realising what it might be) ah, is it quite a light box?
wife: um, fairly.
me: oh, right, that wasn't expensive at all then, it's just some chunks of foam for me to build a new plane with, nothing pricey at all.
wife:  riiight.
me: no really, check the shipping label (praying that the value was put down lower than it should be, beads of sweat forming on my brow)
wife:  oh, well that's okay then, it looks like it only cost $40.
me: (breathing a sigh of relief) see, there's no way I'd spend loads of money on toy planes in these hard financial times we are living in.....
wife:  don't take the p***!
click, brrrrrrrrr

So anyway, it looks like a pair of Caipirinha kits have arrived at home!  Happy days :)

No mate, it's was actually extremely easy to repair. It looked much worse than it was.

I had some 10mm carbon strip laying around, stuffed it into the existing spar slot and CA'd the whole thing back together.... it looks almost good as new and very strong.

Not sure it's my cup of tea really. Might put it up for sale but not sure what the going rate is for cat-d airframes :)

Most of my FPV planes have been fairly large with wingspans between 55-75 inches, all over 2.5KG.

In comparison the Caipr feels a bit too light for me, though it's great fun shooting through goal posts and stuff, I'm just not sure it would get much air time, and I'd rather not have my UHF RX and Immersion VTX sitting on the shelf not being used because HATE having airframes not RTF. If I have an FPV plane it has to be sitting on my shelf ready to go, no arsin around swapping VTXes and shit.

Gonna have a fly with it this weekend in the nice weather and make a final judgement, if not I'll put it in the classifieds by next week. Not sure on price it's the black wing kit with full TBS power/servo kit, has an EZ OSD embedded in the wing and I also custom made a EzUHF dipole with a flexible lower portion for landings.

I still cant work out how TBS can achieve an all-up-weight of not much more than 600g? The spared and laminated foam on my current build was nearly 600g on its own and its not much bigger than the Caipirinha :D

Helium filled EPP foam?

I have to admit, I saw the size of it, weighed up the equipment to go in it, and I wonder how they acheive that weight too.  I reallymust get around to finishing mine off, just got the wiring to do, and some decorations to help orientate it when flying LOS.

Cheers

The battery is nearly 1/3rd of that weight (just over 200g) and I'd imagine the RC gear, motor, prop, rods, servos and vTX has to be coming up to 200g? Then add a GoPro? I doubt the foam and winglets are under 200g? :D

I'm running an Axi 2208/26, Jeti ECO 12 ESC, 3000mAh lipo and folding prop.
Comfortably getting 22mins with around 20% left in batt.
With a 3300 maybe 25mins but I think 35mins would be pushing it!
