Hi All.
Looking at getting a Skywalker 1680. Found an online shop with good price and they had the following recommended specs for the electrics.
Motor, Sunnysky 2814 1100 kv out runner brushless
Fun fly 40a FT ESC with 3 amp BEC
Emax ES08MA Metal gear servos
Are most people just using the BEC to power all the flight controls or separate supply from the motor?
Might upgrade later to a FY-41AP auto pilot as well so want the setup to be able to handle that. Not sure how much power they take to run. Is 3amp BEC ok or better to have separate flight pack?
Not sure about lipo size. Was thinking just getting a 5000 mah 4s to maximize flight time. What sort of flight time would this give with this setup?
I have a camera Remzibi OSD and 200 mw 5.8g video TX ready to go in. Been playing with it already on my Trex 500 :-)

That looks like a reasonable setup.
I would always use a seperate UBEC. I simply do not trust an ESC for that job. If it gets hot or has problems you are likely yo take out your RX and servos. and bye bye plane.
At least with a separate UBEC, if your ESC burns up you can still maintain control and either glide home or crash in a reasonably orderly fashion.
Get a hobbywing 10a ubec as they are very low noise.
I would definitely recommend a 4S setup on the Skywalker, assuming the above motor/esc is capable and is using the correct prop.
I would hazard a guess that a 5000 4S setup should be able to get 20-25 mins in the air. I have a Skywalker 1900 that with 8000 4S which I regularly fly over 40 minutes.
Agree on the ubec, get a high current one 8a+ i have had escs burn up over the years but never ubecs
Thanks happy to run with that. I use the BEC out of the ESC on my Trex 500 but have a separate flight pack on my Goblin and like that setup much better. Can run the electronics without fear of accidentally starting the motor. Every thing is HV on the Goblin but so 2s straight into everything.
Will add a UBEC to the list.
Also any idea about prop size? Never had to worry about that with the helis :-)

8A or 10A Ubec is overkill for 4 emax servos.
yeah would have thought 8 amp is tons but they are cheap enough so might as well over kill it. Cant hurt yeah? Would you get the power supply from the main flight pack as well. Tap into the leads before they go into the ESC. Or run a totally separate battery?
I guess will also end up running the Auto pilot off it?
Guess the video camera and VTX can just run straight off 3s lipo like I am doing now.

Yes 8a is overkill but if you add stuff later etc you wont have issue and they are so cheap imo its not worth not going belt and braces for a few quid more, each to their own i always go 50% over the top on escs too but there is no need just means it should last longer

Ok so I understand the 9x6 (diameter x pitch if I am right) But what is a APC and KMP? No idea what that means. I found both those options in my online shop :-)

APC is a brand of prop. Very popular due to their availability and size selection.
I use a Graupner CAM slim prop 9x6. Seems to work very well on my Skywalker.
DITTO on the stand-alone UBEC.. the ratings on these Chinese ESC internal BEC's are pure fiction!
