I can't really work out which to go for. Building and flying skills aren't a problem, it comes down to performance. Would one be a better platform for longer distances than the other?

Skywalker 1900 would be best for long range. I can fly over an hour with mine with 8000 4S.
Skyhunter is a bit more of a fast flying and is much more acrobatic.
Skywalker for distance runs, plenty of room and good flight characteristics lends itself to it :)
