Don't quite know what to make of this.
A Flying Robot with Adaptive Morphology for Multi-Modal Locomotion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdCXcNt6OTs#ws)
I liked the flying car quad a bit better because it could actually land, roam around, and then take off again - this seems to be a one-shot deal, after landing it can only walk around.
I know the researchers working on this, I've worked for a while at EPFL myself...
But I agree with Steve, much preferred the car!
Reminds me of watching turtles hatch on the beach and legging it to the sea for some reason.
Really odd design, it works, but would you really buy it ?

No, but then they arent doing it for sale purposes, it's just research in heterogeneous mobility in one robot. :)
Kinda cool.
What a great feature! Finally a plane that does the walk of shame for you!
I was thinking ouch ouch ouch as it rolled over it's wing and elevons.
Still this is what these people get paid to do all day. Research pointless things because you never know, one day in 2040 we might have a flying plane/robot.
If we didn't have research, we wouldn't have much of anything.
I say fair play to these guys for thinking outside the box - who knows what applications it might lend itself to in the future.
Yeah that was precisely my point though it came off a bit sarcastic. They basically get to play with shit for the sake of it for some unknown potential use.

+1
People in general under estimate the value of research. Some things end up pointless, others become indispensable, yet others save countless lives.
Research and the freedom/finance to conduct it is what helps to keep Britain at the forefront of international science and technology.

Too true!
But then if no one is doing research....there is nothing to steal! ;)
