Anyway I've been a bit apprehensive about the range of my DX8 for a while so I dug out my old Fleet 35Mhz PCM gear,yes I've still got it, just to compare the two for range, after checking batts I put it in a spare plane but the ailerons wouldn't work, after checking this, that, & the other it seems that the 35 meg gear will only drive one servo at a time ie not two together even though they're only 9g one, anyone got any thoughts on that.
You're not the only one with Fleet gear, although I only use mine in PPM mode.
You need to pin down the problem to tx or rx. Can you get hold of any old PPM rx that you know to be working on all channels? If so, flip your tx to PPM and try it. If all the channels are still working (servos moving), the problem is with the Fleet PCM rx.
If not all the channels are working, that would indicate a Tx problem. Depending on the model of tx, if you open up the back you will see inside banks of two way switches and preset pots. You may find that some of these are set for peculiar mixes or zero servo movements. You will then have to experiment with them to see if that makes any difference with the PCM rx and servos.
If you need a manual I have a few scanned, one of which may suit your tx. If all else fails I can check out your Fleet PCM rx against my gear.
Fleet, in its day was way ahead of the Far East gear, but alas production costs (all txs and rxs were UK made), volume of sales and the retirement of Derek Olley (Mr Fleet) led to the end of the company. After he retired Derek issued a compatibility list for Fleet with other brands of r/c gear. I can send you a copy if you wish.
Cor! You're brave using Fleet gear. When I bought mine there was a rattling sound in side opened it to find a loose capacitor or something inside.
Not impressed. Second one worked ok though.
No wonder they're not around any more.

Many thanks for the offer mate but I've still got the paperwork that came with it,also tried another PCM Rx(I picked up another 3 that were going cheap on ebay when everyone was dumping 35Meg gear,
Yeah I remember Derek Olley as well we were in the same club "Sperry Model Aero Club" later to become British Aerospace MAC which is why 95% of the members used Fleet, (Sperry's is where D O worked & developed the fleet gear before he started on his own, later joined by Ernie Strutt I joined with my Horizon 6E 27meg set but soon changed to one those new fandangled 35meg sets,those were the days, if you had ailerons you were an advanced flyer & a 40 was a very big engine.Anyway I've rattled on enough & you're probably asleep by now. cheers
Mine worked ok and it was good gear really. Just annoying to drive from Devize to Fleet to buy a set then get home to find the problem, then a return to Fleet to get it exchanged.
That was back in about 1991 or so.

yeah I can understand that, I'd have been really p****d off as well, but as a whole I was well pleased with it, but then I live within a short car ride of where the shop was so it was different for me.

I got my first Fleet set in 1986 during a trip south to Farnborough. After I had decided what to buy he gave me an empty box and told me to pick the items that I wanted out of the various bins. Whilst I was doing this another customer came in with a faulty set. It was repaired whilst he waited for a few minutes at the counter - you won't get that level of service from any of the importers of Far East sets. Any time I had to contact Fleet for advice or spares the response was very fast.
A company called Lippeats bought out Derek when he retired, saying they had plans to further develop his range, but this never happened.
All those youngsters thinking Fleet? 35Mhz ?what the bloody hell those old farts on about? oh well back to reality, now where did I put that UBEC & OSD.
