Hi,
I recently bought Fatshark goggles from HK as I needed ones that had wide displays (had tried VR1400's but too close together for me.)
Very pleased with the quality of the image however I noticed a mark in the left display that was dead in the centre and looked like a tiny speck of dirt magnified, to much to ignore so I Googled for info on opening them up but couldn't find anything, just others mentioning specks and wanting to know how to open them up.
I took photos and am posting them on here as they may help someone else out if they need to clean the displays.
It's my first multi photo post and may have to go over a couple of posts in this thread....
There are two screws deeply recessed on the u/s that need to be removed, then the foam around the nose bridge has to be sliced as it spans over the joint between the bottom and top halves of the case.

the case halves come apart but there are several clips around the edge so take care not to snap them, mine unclipped quite easily, the small button end on the brightness/contrast toggle just pulls off if you get your nails under it (watch it doesn't ping across the room.

Once opened up there is a central board that the two displays connect to that has one screw to remove it,

each display has a 2 wire power connector that pulls out, and a ribbon cable that you remove by first slackening the locking surround on the fitting on the board by carefully coaxing it outwards about 2mm, this releases the grip on the ribbon cable.

Once the centre board is removed there are 2 screws with white nylon friction washers holding the sliding arms that allow the displays to be adjusted for width, take out the screws and lift out the displays.

The display and lens are enclosed in a small plastic case held together with two black screws and maybe a bit of tape, this shows one screw, the other is on the other side

With the screws removed the case halves can be carefully pulled apart

At this point you really do want to be working clean as once opened up you are exposing the (ccd ?) display and the lens and this is 'Clean Room' assembly as the tiniest speck of dust is going to show up big in the magnified display.
This is the lens assembly showing that is in two pieces, I found that mine had a speck of dirt trapped between the two lenses

The scary bit was the dirt I saw on the ccd display and I was very carefull and lucky that it just blew off, heres the before

putting it all back together I decided that the hairline joint in the enclosure halves for each display was a possible route for more specks of dust to get in so I used a toothpick to put the thinest run of silicone sealant over the joint line before putting it all back together

Putting it all back together was fairly straightforward, be careful route the wires correctly so they dont get trapped or get in he way of the slide action on the display assemblies

Also dont tighten up the two friction screws on the sliders too much, make sure they slide ok before you close up the case

when you tighten up the two main case screws do make sure that the displays slide ok when you have the screws only part tightened and keep checking as you tighten them up.
Make sure you also line up the selector switch and brightness / contrast button so they both come through the hole / slot in the case without getting damaged.
Mine went back together fairly easily and I am now well pleased that the displays are clean and bright and I know the lenses are clean on the inside.
It's a pity the quality control isn't tight enough as I clearly had two visible bits of dirt on my lens / display and my only alternative would have been to send them back to HK.
Hope this helps..... anyway it's something to do 'cos the weather has been too windy to fly up here.

Excellent thread I too went for fat sharks because of the width they seem to work fine I bought the 5.8ghz version to be able to use them line of site, but they can have a video feed from a different rx if needed ;D

Thanks for this post - I have just repaired my antenna sma on the vtx (was free turning causing a complete loss of signal at 50m and should be okay now).
Followed the instructions and had no problems at all - a real gem of an old thread!
