Title: F550 single motor loss - will it survive?
Post by: g4wft on December 03, 2013, 03:58:37 PM
Hi,

I know that, in theory, a hexacopter should be able to survive a single motor failure and be able to be brought in to land safely.

Anyone actually experienced this with an F550 and can confirm whether this is true in practice?

Cheers,

Tim.

Billy, that is fascinating!  Thanks very much for sharing that.  I'm surprised that it flies so well minus a prop, though I take your point that it was a bit touchy.  I wonder how the craft would react if a motor failed in flight?  That's a slightly different scenario to the one you tested - bit tricky to simulate though!

Cheers,

Tim.

Not my video !!  Just one I found on YouTube.

There used to be videos of a motor failing in flight on the DJI site but I cant find it any more. It continued to fly with no dramas.
