Title: The "NoseyCopter"
Post by: bignose13 on December 23, 2013, 04:56:11 PM
Inspired by Wayne (CurryKitten) and his small mini quad and the K quad by Krikey, I decided to have a go and build something small as well
So, a quick call to my mate Stef1 who has the laser CNC machine, (Excellent piece of kit, if you need anything CNCing, give him a PM)with the details and what I had in mind
A few days later the goods turned up from HobbyKing and off to Stefan they went,
I waited a couple of days and then a call from him telling me it's all been done
Great, got all the bits home and a few days later she's made and looking pretty cool
A list of what was used and the links are here

Wii Board http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=22322 (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=22322)
8 inch "APC" style props
And a few nuts and bolts
Oh and a digi servo I had spare for the Yaw mount, talking of which, Stef designed an integrated yaw mount but was a bit fiddly so I opted for the RCExplorer type mount, works fine, I might go back to Stefs design at a later date
I'm on 5.8 VTX and a Mobius as a flight cam along with the main recording cam
A couple of glitches along the way through the Nanoboard but a few txts back and forth from Shikra soon sorted, Still need to do the Stabilzation but it's too windy here at the moment to do it any justice, does hover nicely in acro mode in the living room though
When the weather plays ball I'll'll get some proper vid up, 600 watts of power and weighs jut over 600 grams, and that's on a 2200 mah lipo, might try for a 1500 I got spare here,
Think I could hit the 60mph barrier,  :o anyway here's the money shots, more to follow and vids
BTW, it's 12 inches motor shaft to motor shaft (Front motors)

Really looking forward to seeing that thing in action, it looks like it's going to be a wild ride :)

That's a great idea about laying the tail servo on it's side - would give more surface area to fix it on properly.

Just seemed common sense to me Wayne,
I did do a bit of a hover in the garden, pushed the sticks forward and "Bloody Hell"  :o nippy little bugger, just wished the weather would get stuffed,
Ah well, back to the antennas
Forgot to say as well, the arms fold to fit into my carry bag
One other thing, I had to bring the P and I down a fair bit to stop the servo from jittering quite badly, the yaw is a little wishy washy now, over to you Shik????????
(If it were a heli gyro I would up the gains to make it more locked in)

Wow, that really is a rocket.  You'll have to stick some sort of OSD on it just to check it's max speed out.  The NanoWii looks nice (and teeny) I had issues with stability trying a full throttle climb on my kk2

Managed to Balance the props and motors yesterday, not brilliant but a lot better and fine for what I'll be using the Nosey for
Any way
BTW, this thing gets VERY small VERY quickly

Ok Did the Maiden,
Went well, not sure what happend to the render though,
better off just watching in 720,
Oh and the Mobius as a flight cam.......forget it, it's shite, gonna have to change over to a board cam, Mobius just cant handle it, a couple of times I came close to objects and crashing
Anyway enjoy

Just saw this on YouTube and asked about what happened.  I guess if Mobius was a bit behind when you flipped it.  That's a shame, looks like it's the little 808 for me still then.

Aside from that, it looks like it's flying nicely :)

Only on about 1/4 throttle all the time Wayne, plenty of juice there
Yeah the Mobius is a good camera just nothing like a board cam for flying, it's pretty awful tbh, didnt see any lag though
I caught the front legs in the ground trying to land btw
