Title: boscam ts832 fried it
Post by: Hubie123 on February 13, 2014, 12:39:41 AM
Help
I will start off with I'm a newb, and think I have just burnt out my boscam 5.8ghz 600mw tx and my storm osd in one go, setting it all up turned it all on and I had the osd on screen but no picture I check everything and 1 of the Security 2000 camera cables had come out of the little plug On the back, when I grabbed it and tried to poke it back in still all plugged in, it touched another One next to it  before I new what was going on, smoke was coming from the back bottom left of the tx I  unplugged everything quick but tx is burnt quite badly, and there is no light coming on on the storm , although I have unplugged the camera and tx is this now all good for the bin or fixable ?? I'm in Dartford anyone out there can hep me fix it ?? As another £46 plus postage for tx and storm £109  im considering jumpIng up and down on it followed by petrol and a match .
How the hell can this silly couple of wires burn out everything that cost me So much

Regards
Hubie

I'm off to bed now but praying tomorrow someone has a magic wand and can say a abracadabra I can fix it yes you can please please pretty please

It could be the voltage regulator on the VTX. Take some photos of the circuit board and post them here so folks can see the damage...

Not too sure on the Storm, but at least its topical ;D

The Storm OSD will probably be fine but your Vtx is most likely goosed.

Anyone got a spare Vtx you can borrow to check?

When you make a mistake and allow 12v to go through a circuit its not supposed to be on it can cause all sorts of damage. I would expect the camera to be toast at this point. I would also expect the OSD to be damaged as well as the fault and fault current went through it before continuing to everything else. I would have also expected the Vtx to survive with the camera and OSD failing first but this seems not the case.

I`m afraid to say it looks very much like you have destroyed the lot. One expensive lesson

Really? Wouldn't it just have gone as far as the V regulator on the Vtx? Ouch - oh well, listen to Ian as he knows his stuff.Sorry mate!

Yeah Steve. From the description of smoke coming from the camera suggests the 12v was not shorted at the camera. If it was the camera would not have smoked. It would have really quickly burn a track inside, the Vtx would have been fine with a power track possible burnt out on the OSD depending on which track ( camera or OSD video power ) went first. The Vtx would have seen 0v across it and survived.

To me this suggests instead the 12v didn't short but was sent down a different route, possibly the video circuit.

If you can open them up and take some photo's I will have a look if you want and tell you if they can be repaired or there is no hope. I'm an electronic engineer with 25yrs in the trade   ;D

The fried component is a ss14 diode

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIODE-SCHOTTKY-1A-40V-SMD-Part-SS14-/350819435599?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item51ae77c44f (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIODE-SCHOTTKY-1A-40V-SMD-Part-SS14-/350819435599?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item51ae77c44f)

Not sure if replacing it will fix it but worth a try

Hi all
and thanks for all your input,
I have been very busy of late and not had a chance to put fingers to keys (pen to paper) if you know what I mean,

I just want to say out load THANK YOU Giles (gtv ) for all his help and to say to anyone on here struggling with electronics he is the man,and to put anyone at ease, as you can see from this thread gtv offered me some help given that he is an electronics engineer of many years and after showing him some photos he offered to take a look for me if I posted them to him, and yes a worry sending a complete stranger £170 worth of my equipment always hesitantly  but having fried the lot what choice did I have throw it in the bin and go spend another £170 or take the risk,
so recorded delivery £6.95 and off they went with self addressed envelope for return inside as requested phone numbers were exchanged before hand a day later a pm to say delivery was missed but he would pick up from post office that evening and he would have a chance to look at it the next day, the next morning i get a text that I had forgot to put in the power lead for the tx and could I send a photo of the leadI sent a photo via whatsapp in return a couple of hrs later I get a short video via whatsapp showing my tx all wired up direct to the board and working the next morning I get a video showing it all working with a new diode soldered on and the board cleaned up of burns etc and then a few hrs later another video saying your lucky he found a fault on my current sensor and asking me if I wanted My storm osd updating as there was a new version out, given a warning that this could all go terrible wrong and on my own head it be, gave the all go and then  the next day I get a video showing it all working and the update showing version 2  followed by a photo that evening a receipt for the £6.95 postage back.

If in any doubt anyone out there, no need,  Giles your a legend 100% genuine Thank you again and again top man Enough said

Hi there, I did wire my mobius to ts353 with an hobbyking osd ..

Did not check the polarity is reversed for the ts353 supply .. It did an electric spark as soon a I plugged the battery balance to the fat shark regulator ..

Then I soldered to swap the polarities .. but the ts353 don't seem to work properly :
no red led on, the output of fatshark balancer is still 11.4 V ..

I'm kinda lost .. do anyone have a clue how to solve / repair this ?

Btw, what is the name of the connector on picture n°4 ? I'm searching for female plug with screws for this one

Thanks in advance for any clue or advice

Guys, this topic is awsome!

I have a ts832 and the little component right above the SS14 IS SMOKED. Can you please tell me what that is?

I can't tell you what it is but I can tell you I've just got my 6th one from BG and it was the cheapest yet at a tad under £8 !! Not worth repairing at that price hey! ;)
