Just got a Frsky 7db 2.4g patch antenna for my TX to increase the range.
On the top it has an arrow. I would guess it should point towards the plane ????
It folds 90 deg but when I do that the arrow is facing towards me and not the plane. It only has 90 deg either side of center rotation so I can spin it around either.
I tend to fly holding the tranny flat not vertical so no way of getting the arrow pointing the plane. Is it meant to be pointing towards the plane or away from the plane.
Haven't had a chance to test yet. I guess a range check might give me the answer fairly easy.
The only way I can see to turn it around is getting a 90deg plug then I can use the 90 rotation it has to get the arrow pointing towards the plane.
Am I missing something here or have I got it wrong.
A Patch antenna does need the 'flat' surface to be pointing to the plane or nearly pointing to the plane.
The FRONT of the FRsky antenna has a label at the top right hand corner as you look at it - the REAR has NO label on it.

I have tested these in flight, and managed 160m behind the antenna.
So lots of margin to play with. :-)

Mine doesn't have the label on the front. Only the arrow on the top. Guessing it is not an original frsky one. Just not sure if the arrow is towards the plane or towards the radio. The Natural way it sits is towards the radio which doesn't look right.
I was flying yesterday with a Helical on my VTX and got a good 100 meters behind with no problem. surprised me a little.
Might just have to go to the park and give it a range check might make it obvious.

The easiest way to figure this out, there is a bend joint in the antenna, set the antenna joint to 90 Deg on this bend, and only one face of the antenna will be able to point forwards.

If I do that the arrow faces towards me. not sure if its my logic or not but would have thought the arrow would have faced the plane.
Not sure when I will get a chance to test as preparing for a overseas trip but I think a simple range check will answer my question.
