Title: Naza Lite Shaking after set up Change
Post by: John7845 on March 06, 2014, 06:36:22 PM
Hi All,

I have been flying my quad for a good few months now with the Naza M Lite, and it has been flying
perfectly...nice and smooth, solid GPS hold etc etc.

I have just however changed my set up as follows:

4S 5000mah Battery moved from bottom of quad to above (on top plate)

Installed gimbal below quad where battery used to be.

So with my battery now above rather than below, and my gimbal and go pro mounted
where is used to be on the bottom tray, I went off for a test fly.

I used to get a little shaking when the quad was spooling up on the ground, probably from
knocks by the skids, however as soon as it left contact with the ground it would be smooth as a millpond.

Now however, with this new set up I went for a test fly, and I get a normal spool up, but as soon
as I take off I get a lot of shaking, on all axis, when not touching the sticks at all.

It shakes no mater what input, until I set her down and power down.

I know this is not an issue with props/motors etc....as it was working fine before.

My best guess is because the battery is now mounted above, it is more top heavy,
and so the autopilot is having to make corrective inputs much more.

Consequently, with more inputs being made it is shaking as the previous gains I had left
unchanged are now to high for it due to the high number of corrective inputs being made- caused
by the new battery position.

So I think that my previous gains are too high for this new set up....so will need to lower them by 20% or so??

This is my best bet at the problem,

current gains are around 175%...which worked fine before....

I'll see what you all think ;)

and hopefully can get it back to that smooth rail like flight for my Go Pro!!!

All the best,

John. :D
Thanks so much! :D

yeah, i would just have a play with the gains. should sort out the shaking

I would put the roll and pitch gains on a knob or slider and reduce them until the shaking stops but you still have good control. Then check the gain by connecting it back to the Naza Assistant and setting this as std.

I had to do this when I added a BLG and a bigger battery.

Cheers Mick.....I think it is the gains causing it....even though they worked out well before the changes,

the new set up is very different weight distribution wise!

Unfortunately I do not have any nobs or sliders on my Tx :(( ....only switches,

So I guess I will have to gradually reduce them on the Naza Assistant
and keep testing until it smooths out.......:))

In that case I would reset them to 100 and test it. Hopefully it would be OK and then go up or down in chunks of 20. Just as an experiment I once turned the P&R gains down to 50 and it still flew well although it drifted/wallowed a bit.

Yeah, will do.

I was wondering what the symtoms of two low gains are.....you just answered; Lots of drift
and wallowing with not much/fast corrective inputs ;))

Will give it a go tomorrow if the weather is ok!

Thanks again,

John.

Just reduced all the gains proportionally down to around the 100% mark, and this has indeed solved it.

However, do I have to adjust simply the 'Attitude' gains, or all of the Pitch/roll yaw etc gains as well?

Just wondering as I reduced all, however was wondering weather I can crispen stick inputs
whilst still preventing it from shaking using the 'Attitude' gains.

What did you do Mick, all or just Attitude gains?

I increased P&R gains until it started to shake and then dropped them 20 to provide some margin. The final result was 120 for my quad but each will be different. The yaw and altitude was always good at 100. The attitude gain provides crisper stick control so I upped those a bit until I was happy, this had no impact on the shaking.

Fine, so sounds like P&R are the only ones guilty for the shaking......

I dropped all of mine, but definitely will now put back up Yaw and Altitude to what they previously were, along with Attitude......to hopefully regain my perfect control before the set up change, whilst eliminating the Shaking :))

Please check out my thread under Multicopters, I've just made regarding power :))

Thanks so much.
