Title: helical antennas
Post by: quadcopter007fpv on March 06, 2014, 07:43:34 PM
just some helpful hints on how to build these things

for 5.8 use  1mm copper wire, when you wind it use something about 2 mm smaller then your target width
cut your ground plane to the length of 1 wavelength of your freq  thats about 51.75mm
when you attach the "former" that holds the spring like wire use very little glue, and drill a small hole and use a screw
the glue tends to break over time or one wrong smack
the middle former should not be metal as it will mess up your antenna
here are some pictures so you can get ideas

Very nice work! Way Prettier than mine. As there is more than one way to skin a cat... Here anyway is a link to my DIY 5.8 Ghz Helical too for comparison

I keep meaning to get around to a 3D printed version.. Hopefully someone will beat me to it ..!

Has anyone tried these?

At $9 unless you enjoy faffing about, hardly seems worth the bother of making your own. They are LHCP so may not be fore everyone.

Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, for a start they are made wrong, then scroll down and you will see "available with a square plastic base " or in other words, no reflector at all rendering the antenna useless lmao

Someone forgot to tell then plastic is not conductive hehe

Bruce did a video showing how crap these were.

yea , the china ones are LHCP i believe, i also will be sending my antenna to bruce so it can take the "pepsi" challenge, ive sold about 15 of the 5.8 and 3 of the 1.3 version everyone seems to love them , for the price you cant beat it. im kinda a new member over here so i don't have access to the classified's section yet but when i do ill list them, im not trying to get rich, i just think 85$ for an antenna is overpriced

If your making them to order open a thread in Manufacturers section bud. One thread per member to sell what ever you make / advertise / promote etc
