Title: Boscam TS-832 with HDMI camera
Post by: sanpule on March 13, 2014, 04:31:44 PM
Hi guys,
first post on the forum after some intense readings during the last few weeks.

I'm finally in the process of starting doing some FPV flights using my Sony HDR-AS30V which feature a MICRO HDMI live streaming.

I've already ordered a Boscam TS-832, and obviously now I need an HDMI to AV converter to sit in between the Camera and the Transmitter.
Do you guys have any experience with this sort of converters?

I know there are interesting micro solution like  this one (http://www.banggood.com/Aerial-FPV-HDMI-To-AV-Analog-Signal-Converter-For-SONY-Nex5-Nex7-p-909951.html), but it doesn't seem to be really flexible, does it support NTSC/PAL?
If so, is possible to switch between the two?
Not to mention that my camera has a MICRO HDMI and not MINI, so I would need at least a MICRO to MINI HDMI cable, which doesn't seem ideal (does a MICRO hdmi to female MINI hdmi cable even exist? I know there are some adaptors but this couldn't work because of the space required).

I was then looking into something like this (http://www.banggood.com/5V-HDMI-To-AV-Converter-Controller-For-FPV-Aircraft-p-919130.html), I think it should work, but I then have additional questions:

Following the second question, how can I connect the audio to the TS-832?
This is not vital, but would be nice to have.

The BangGood image show the converter working with a TS-832 (BTW it doesn't seem to make any use of the audio output), but it seem to be powered from an external source so I was wondering if that converter can get the power from the TS-832 if it really does need it.

There is this other solution (http://www.hobbytoys77.com/aerial-fpv-hdmi-to-av-analog-signal-converter-for-most-camera_p2800.html) eventually, it doesn't seem to require any power (and so again I wonder if the other converter really need it and why), but it doesn't seem to take care of the audio channel.
Also I don't know if any of you has ever been able to find a MICRO HDMI to standard HDMI super soft cable, it doesn't even seem to exist!

I would greatly appreciate if someone can spread any light on this topic.

P.S. my intention is to do FPV when recording at 1920x1080 @60fps

Ok, guys, let's try to reduce the number of questions and see if somebody can help.

Here is the update, I've purchased this HDMI to AV converter (http://www.airyear.com/5v-hdmi-to-mini-hdmi-hd-hdmi-controller-board-for-fpv-aircraft-ntsc-pal-p-111906.html), as I already said I'm not sure it will require 5V power from an external source or can get the power from the HDMI source, which according to the specifications should provide +5V 50mA.

In case the HDMI power is not enough (I'm not even sure the SONY AS30V is actually able to output this power and I wasn't actually able to find such information on the net) I have ordered this voltage regulator (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400572666854?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649) so that it can take the 12V output from the TS832 video transmitter and output 5V to power the HDMI converter.

There is still something I'm not really clear, and I'm sure somebody here can help with this, the manual for the TS832 show just one wire for the 12V output, where in order to use the regulator, and also to power the HDMI converter I should have a Positive and a Negative wire; so basically I don't know how to connect the TS832 to the regulator in order to then connect this to the HDMI converter.

Somebody here in the forum has mentioned to have used the video transmitter with a regulator or a UBEC to power a 5V camera, and so I'm quite confident this can be achieved, any help?

I've attached some pics to show the pin configuration of the units I purchased.
