very interesting. PLA is less flexible too than ABS but that might be a good thing although it can also be more brittle. Is there any reason why it's a plank and not a swept wing? would that make a difference with speed? or does that only start becoming a problem near supersonic speeds :)

Nice, interested in this :)

Reminds me in style to a Ripmax plane I had a long time ago.

That thing was very quick. Look forward to seeing sound ground recordings of your speed runs :)

I've got one of those little HK Rare Bears.  It's crazy fast but yet small.  Truth be told a bit too small/fast for my eyes when flying LOS.  Often thought about FPVing that.

Looking good, how long till it will fly?

Cover the servo and linkage in some vaselline / ky jelly.

In theory a spray of wd40 should remove it afterwards!

Looks fantastic Andy! Seeming as it's pretty much done, does that mean you're up for some flying at the weekend?!

Good luck with it Andy. It looks stunning!

The motor must of failed, 10a is nothing really.

10A going through a 1.2KW motor is a brief stroll, something wrong there for sure :(

Is the wing from an M60?

These are a bit pricey Andy, but Mega motors are popular with pylon racers:

http://www.puffinmodels.com/product.php?prod=1565 (http://www.puffinmodels.com/product.php?prod=1565)

That on a 6S swinging a 6x6 will give you about 3.5Kg of thrust drawing 50a.

On my project I'm going for a power 25 1250 on a 4s with an 8x8. A steep pitch spinning slower seems to be the way to go, tricky on the launch but builds speed nicely.

A race? I thought you were just building something so we could fly proximity without my wing stalling!  :P

Mine's a reasonably simple build mate, Rob's printing me off a Venturi sport with the motor mount a little farther forward, I've 3D printed a custom camera mount and hatches to make it FPV. I'm running it fairly light on 2x 3300Mah 4S batteries.

I don't hang about so I hope to have it ready for a maiden on Sunday.

Nice one Andy, sounds like you'll easily meet your target!

What do you say though Brucey, a 15 second time penalty for using a pussy launcher?

S*d. Found I had a bent prop shaft from yesterday. Decided to see if could straighten it with pliers and sheared it off  Think I might shelve this project for a while and get on with Solius!

I vote you turn your attention to making your Falcon fly at a respectable pace. You missed out on all the fun on Saturday!

Really like the work you have done on your 'hub'.

Is it just going to be a circuit passive board or will you add anything to it? Eg. 12v and 5v regulator and lc filtering on board so it powers all the equipment?

Perhaps it could also contain a video switch with multiple video inputs?

There could definitely be a product that I would buy which I could plug in-between all my RC/Video/AutoPilot system to aid integration, if done right should allow easy swapping of your individual components and allow for fast reliable builds.

Cool, you've managed to cram a lot in there! Hopefully the weather the weekend after is ok, but don't wait for me, you can do it!

I'll fly it! ;D

I'll land it! :D

If you're around at the weekend I'll spot for you Andy. The Barn Field is huge with a decent mowed landing strip so would be a great place to maiden it.

Rather than hack it up, did you reduce the throws? Just thinking my wing has huge elevons, but tiny throws.

That's astounding!

How fast did it go? Did you get a read out from your osd?

His OSD displays speed in beard-seconds so wouldn't make any sense to anyone else even if it was plugged in.

It lands hot too, I like it. Need to see it in the flesh. Was the launch with the bungee?

I like the way you think that while doing 200mph you're going to have time to look at a plethora of stats in your OSD! I'd be using 110% of my brain power just to keep the thing in the blue.

Look forward to seeing and hearing it again tomorrow mate.

A sad occasion indeed. Mind you, all the composure went out the window when Brucey had to start digging half a foot down to pull the nose cone out!

I hope you get it rebuilt mate, the project's still got plenty of potential, I reckon all it needs is a good throw rather than the bungee.

This sort of thing is way out of my league

But do you really need to bungee launch it?

And second- assuming you're planning on staying fairly close range- can you mount your cloverleaf horizontally inside the fuselage somewhere to improve aero, or even use a ducky if it's a bit cramped.
Title: Re: ScaredyKat - FPV Speedster - first milestone 125 m.p.h
Post by: Brucey on October 23, 2014, 08:59:43 PM
Yeah it prob does need the bungee, it doesn't generate a lot of static thrust.
And the aero drag on a clover is minimal. , he couldn't lay it flat because the nulls would mess up the reception. Plus 5.8g on linear is a no no.
