Im a newbie! looking for any flyers in the bradford area, and my main issue is i really dont know were i can fly with lots of space and would love someone to show me "the ropes"...
I have a phantom x61... my first few flights have ended me up with a broken aileron :/
So ideally just hoping someone is in the area :)
Welcome,I`m near Preston ,but Bradford is a little to far for a meetup.
I have an FX61 also,feel free to ask any questions,though I`m not an expert by any stretch ;)
My no 1 question is! how do you launch the bloody thing, bear in mind im a newbie! i think im throwing it to high!!
Also do you have a OSD set up, would be nice to see a pic of how you have wired it all in to the body of the plane
If theres a decent headwind a good firm chuck just above level throttle off ,then get on the power asap,Maybe trim in some up elevator to lanch.
No wind: power on till you feel it pulling then firm throw just above level.
Make sure your cog is correct,and mind your pinkies if launching with the throttle on :o
If you can launch off a hill or mound into the wind that will help,try to find a site with long grass too.

I use a Cyclops Storm OSD,and it works great,all the instuctions are in the manual which is easy to follow.

Re landing, which Jake didn't mention, try and find some concrete so you can do a cartwheel which should stop it fairly quickly, or if theree is no concrete, a water filled ditch will have the required effect, won't it Jake ? :)
Well i feel an idiot, launching was a piece of p**s today!! i cant beleive i struggled with it
i did notice a huge difference between throwing in to wind and with the wind, infact i cudnt get it off the ground when throwing WITH the wind

its first one on my wall.... i just struggled to get it up...(pun not intended!!) it just seems to dive up and down, i was pulling up and banking left the whole time after it took a sharp right.
am i a crap pilot! or was this a wind issue, bearing in mind the wind wasnt strong at all!
10 minutes after this... i was flying 20 feet high, turned right... and it just plummeted to the ground! more damage encountered!! wing snapped off completly, lots of glue gunning and its all back together,(is that actually allowed! or will id distrupt flying, its still as strong if not stronger then before anyway) im not sure how many people re glue them! or if i am an idiot to do so!
Also! is FPV easier then 3rd person! i would imagine it is but ir eally want to master 3rd hand flying before i FPV
Why not join a rc model club and get some proper training on a buddylead? It's free and you will save money models and learn how to trim models out and fly safely. Rc models and the CAA are not to be taken lightly. Ask Mali .......

Make sure your ailerons/elevons are working correctly.
You`ll need to keep plenty of power on,and keep your elevators stick pulled down to gain plenty of height .
Remember altitude is your friend.You dont want to be turning right at 20 feet!
Learn to fly LOS before FPV.
Not sure what your flying experience is,but a wing is not the best plane to start off with,something like a Bixler 2 will be a lot easier.

I used to live in Baildon on the outskirts of Bradford years ago. I'm not local to you any more but if you're looking for a wide open space to fly, try Baildon Moor. Hundreds of acres of common land that then runs into Ilkley Moor. You'd find it ideal.
With regard to FPV, I find it easier than flying third person view / LOS .... no probs with orientation of the plane or flying into the sun, it's like playing a video game.....

I want something with just a prop and motor on it, got all my own radio gear, i thought i could of picked something up for 50£ or so...or am i wrong

my problem is flying in a half size field just makes me panic and it has houses so im scared of getting to close to them so i think ive gone wrong with the location really.
Yes i was turning at 20 feet.... this is why i crashed, but i wudnt go to high as i have 35mhz radio and im worried about losing signal.
I have 2.4ghz turnigy on order , should arrive tomorrow, had to experience the Hong Kong shipping times :( not enjoying the waiting :)
i just dont want to fly FPV , be ok with flying then crash the thing when i land!
also tried some simulators on the desktop, quite handy really should of done that before.
You guys are great by the way! was expecting lots of abuse! ha
if you guys could give me some easier and cheaper models to fly would really appreciate it, will get one ordered i dont want to keep crashing this one!! :)

With regard to Baildon Moor, when you come through Baildon village onto the moor , first left takes you up past the 3 reservoirs, up the hill. I used to fly from the hill overlooking the reservoirs ( good landmarks for fpv flying ) or over the other side looking more toward shipley Glen. That was in the days when I flew slope soarers, but there's a massive expanse of common land between the two spots to set up and fly.
I started with a multiplex easystar 2 - very easy to fly . The bixler is very similar and a bit cheaper. Both are good to learn with and make excellent fpv platforms.
