I have owned a DX6 for a few years so know what to expect.. I just upgraded to a DX8 and when I started to do config, something felt wrong.. Frustrating.. But I couldn't put my finger on it.
Anyway, I worked it out and its VERY minor, but annoying none the less. Its very hard to explain but I will try.. At no point am I talking about the 'click' you get when you press the roller.. This is all about rolling.
When I roll right, the click and switch are perfectly in step. Every time I get a click, the display moves by one position
But to the left, the click and the switch are out of phase. The electronic switch is detected before the click... As I slowly roll to the left, the screen updates before the click.. If I havn't got to the click and let it go, it then immediately moves back again, as the ratchet hasn't engaged.. Sometimes this causes me to move 2 places.. Other times Left one and immediately back to the right.. I simply have to start to roll left and the screen updates, even though I havn't had the click feeling.
If I roll quickly, its not a problem.. But for going slowly and setting individual parameters its not right.. Its really frustrating to use..
Its beyond minor. And I feel like an idiot complaining about.. But a couple of days in and I can't stand using the roller.. I accept that once my config has been done, this is a none issue.. But after spending £200 on a TX, I feel it should be right.
Do you think I am justified in getting it swapped?

If we ran a poll on here of most disliked radio equipment Spektrum would take gold every time. No one on here would recommend a Spekrum setup, unless that`s all they have ever used. Its rubbish gear, rollers always break and brown out kings.

Not yet.. I am in the process of packing it ready for shipping.. And as I did, I have one last play and questioned whether I was doing the right thing.
I know what you are saying about Spektrum.. I have never been entirly impressed with the build quality of the kit.. But its too late to do much about it now.

I would recommend Spektrum, and I have used Futaba, 9x, 9xr and a Taranis.
It does sound like your roller is not right. You can send it to Horizon Hobby and they will fix it pretty fast as Spektrum have a lot better customer service than all of the others I mentioned above combined. ;D

Yeah I've noticed that people seem to mention Frsky glitches quite frequently without it ever becoming a "thing", but after reading those reports it sounds like some right old tat and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. To my mind a 2.4GHz system shouldn't glitch at all. And in six years, dozens of aircraft and thousands of flights my Spektrum gear has been completely flawless.
Until last night ;D I had an issue with a Spektrum RX. It was with a BNF Habu EDF jet. So if it was a problem with the installation then it wasn't any of my doing. The thing locked out completely just as it lifted off. Going to glue it all back together and try a separate UBEC in there.
The only spektrum stuff I use on any of my proper planes or helis is the neck strap, I kept that after I gave the dx8 back to where I bought it from. I traded it for an 8fg after I lost a Raptor 90 gasser conversion and horizon couldn't find anything wrong...

I have to say I have been flying with my DX8 for about 2 years and never had an issue with it for me the build quality and easy of switching from mode 2 to mode 1 was well worth the money. Having said that I agree about some of the cheap park fly receivers I had one the other week which now refuses to bind.
I think a lot can be said for doing range tests before each flight which a lot of people don't do this helps identify issues before you get the plane into the air.
Not saying Spectrum are better or worse than other brands for the money but for me it does what I want
The problem is, for every Spektrum user who is happy with the kit, there are two or more who have had problems within this niche, FPV.
Put it this way - I bought a "RTF" WildHawk when I first started out on 35MHz. Cheapest radio ever. And it was flawless, purely flawless, while flying LoS.
Would it have been so flawless to use while flying FPV? Let's not kid ourselves - and that is where Spektrum gear lets go - once you start to extend range beyond your normal parkflyer, Spektrum just doesn't seem to cut it in the majority of cases.
I'm not beating on it, it just seems to me that there are radios, and then there are radios suited to range.
