Hi there lately i have been reading alot about the immersion rc duo 5800v3 diversity reciever and from what ive read seem to be a good little unit to help with my video link. The plan is to use a patch aswell as a skew for antennas ive heard alot about this setup that can increase range. At present for rc control im useing a 8fg tx with stock antenna. The platform im useing is the penguin with APM 2.6 as flight with minm osd which gives me RSSI. For peace of mind regarding rc control i would like some advice on maybe useing dragon link for my tx or just get a booster for the 2.4ghz tx. I cant seem to get any advice on would DL work ok with apm or some pointers on a 2.4ghz booster please. I just thought if anywere this is the place to get some good advice.

The problem with using a 2.4 booster is the amount of rf it puts out
If you fly with regular flyers on 2.4 your more than likely going to cause some headaches
What sort of distances are you trying to achieve? Would be handy to know so we can advise you more soundly
If you fly on your own the the 2.4 booster linked shouldn't be a problem

I would always advise against a 2.4 booster, your just spewing RF all over on the most used band in the UK. Dragonlink or any UHF really cabn give you much more range without the need for a tenth of the power and your not polluting any of the RF spectrum.
ok the range i would like to fly out to when im more at home with the setup i have around 3miles on a good day ive read that 5.8ghz is not that good regarding range but recently have purchased the duo 5800v3 diversity with a 600mw for tx. ive just finished building a tripod ground station which when fully extended is around 16ft tall from the ground added to this im useing a 13db gain patch antennas and a skew. Im kind of swaying more towards getting the dragon link just to know that i have solid rc link. On the APM side of it i have failsafe setup RTL in case i lose signal so pretty solid setup really its more peace of mind really.
Do yourself a favour and get a Dragon Link mate. Trying to boost 2.4ghz range is gonna be more hassle than it's worth.
Absolutely worry free RC link to silly ranges, I've never had a single glitch or fault with mine. Been out to 10 miles on low power.
The 5800 v3 and 13db spironet patch antenna is good for up to 8-9km of good video depending on the weather. You will find that high humidity days will knock that down a bit, somedays I struggled to get past 6km.
Either way the DragonLink all the way in my opinion.
many thanks for your feed back i think my only concern is the setting up ive been told that its not so straight forward with the 8fg tx that im useing im hoping its just a case of useing the trainer port to connect DL to 8fg something to do with PPM between the 2? also by useing the trainer port is not as reliable? But to be honest 6km would be great let alone 8-9km thats something else.
Another option all be it a bit dated and you need the module for your radio
Is 35mhz, I've been 5k easily with half wave antenna extension
ok simon i think maybe dragon link sounds pretty good as i mentioned earler just useing it with 8fg tx through trainer port. Thought would ask hows that extension coming on? soz about the messing around with connectors!
If it has a trainer port it should be good to go.
Futaba changed their PPM stream on the 8FG and it caused problems with people and EzUHF, however i don't see anyone complaining about the 8FG and Dragonlink, a quick search on the 500+ page thread on RCGROUPS and lots of people are reporting no problems using the 8FG so I think you will be fine.
Only one thing, what is the pack voltage of the 8FG? The DragonLink needs at least 8v, eg. a 2S lipo.
So if your 8FG has a poxy 5v pack you are gonna either have to put a boost converter in place to push the voltage up to the DL, or you are gonna have to run a seperate pack just for the DragonLink. Third option perhaps the 8FG can run on 2S pack? In which case you can get an upgrade and be OK.

Don't believe there are any UK resellers.
My advice, readymaderc.com - fast shipping from the U.S usually takes under a week and they mark the goods nicely so I've never paid a penny in import duty. Also great service and support despite being an international company.
