Does anybody fly one of these or had one previously? I'm trying to find a plane I can cruise around in fpv but not limited to only that. Something that feels comfortable doing mild acrobatics or low level flying.
Main issue with the Specter is you can only get it from US so I'm guessing postage will bump up the price and I run the risk of getting hit with import duty.
One other option I thought of was a twinstar which is much more available over here. Not cheap if I get the power kit as well but at least the quality will be better than a Chinese knock off..
I'm flying the Phantom FX61 at the moment but a bit disappointed with it. I've tried lower level flying but the yaw wobble just doesn't inspire confidence and quite frankly is enough to make you feel sick! This is the reason for not thinking about a different wing..

Ritewings track straight in all the videos I have seen.
even the Mini Z is on rails...
not had a spectre, but I wouldn't write off wings until you have tried the best, and although only available from the US several people import them now.

That's because people edit out the bits where it's wobbling. I have build two Z2's, they both wagged. Build a Z60, still wags. This is nothing to do with the build or the specific type of wing, wings just don't have enough resistance to yaw. So they all do it.
When the conditions are right, yes it will track extremely well with little yaw wobble. However if the conditions are wrong it will be wagging all day. If you want to consistently get good footage then a wing is simply not the platform to be flying. In my opinion probably less than half of my wing footage is usable.

Most planes will fly acrobatically, and they will all fly low level but I think you are gonna have problems finding the 'perfect' airframe.
What is good for FPV is usually what you don't want when you wanna fly low or do acrobatics. Trying to find something to do both and you are gonna end up with something that does nothing very well.
My advice, if you are into FPV, concentrate on the FPV aspect. If you really want to do acrobatics buy a cheap LOs plane to do it so you don't smash your lovely FPV plane in the dirt doing mad stuff.

Doesn't that depend on what you define as the FPV aspect? What do you define that as?

Good point on the wing...
As for fpv, most people think of fpv being flying around shooting video.
Fpv airframes are optimised for stable cruising and prop free view.
All planes are a collection of compromises you just need to pick the features you want.
You may be wanting to do fast, low cruising with the odd loop or roll. Anything with ailerons can do that, my easystar will do inverted circuits all day long, but if you are looking for high energy moves like tumbles and flicks then you will be looking at planes with symmetrical section airfoils and large throws.
This kind of plane is easier to fly from the ground than as if you are in it. And you will need to look at offerings from plane companies that will carry the extra weight from very little to a lot depending on if you want a stand alone vtx battery and osd etc, or if you just want a cam and vtx then you could buy a cheap 3d foamie and have a blast.
Something that would make a good aerobatic plane is not a plane optimised for fpv with a pusher prop.
Something like an acro wot may be ok, but then so might a multiplex stunt master. Then again if you want fast and low then a funjet may be the way to go they roll like drill bits if you keep the rates up...
So you can see depending on what you want to achieve the plan form, cost and complexity of the system changes.

Yes good point, from previous Mad Dogs meets seems lots of people like doing a few acrobatics but as Steve said, anything with ailerons can do that.
Going back to your original point about flying low.... my experience with all my FPV planes is that some days you just can't fly low. The wind/turbulance kicks up and you end up getting buffeted around and it's just not very fun. Those days you wanna gain a bit of altitude and cruise around. However some days are perfect and you can get really low and enjoy yourself without throwing up or having to wrestle the controls. Wings are affected more because any turbulence induces yaw wag but on a good day your FX61 would fly beautifully I'm sure.
My suggestion might be to consider one of the new Skywalkers with the plank wing. They seem quite acrobatic and maneuverable and won't suffer from any wag.
Intro vid is my Skywalker 1900, everything after the invisible fence is a Ritewing Z60. On about a perfect day as you can get.

Just revisited this thread and that is some lovely low flying in the Skywalker prior to the fence :-)
We've had one or two perfect days since writing this thread and the wing is lovely when the conditions are right. I've just maidened a mini skywalker LOS and flies really nice so I'm hoping to have some fun with that when I stick a camera and vtx on it :-)
