Title: New Ground-station ;)
Post by: DaveyLC on August 20, 2014, 06:37:30 PM
I know this isn't strictly FPV related but it will be used for the hobby :D

I love BIG cars they are extremely practical especially for this sort of hobby! I've had various 4WD's for the last few years but I've ALWAYS fancied a Viano for me they tick loads of boxes: Its big, its comfortable and its RWD (I have a deep seated hate for how FWD cars drive).. The problem how-ever is decent examples with low mileage tend to be massively over-priced for what they are and most of the high-end examples were used by the private higher industry so they only get sold when they are knackered! plus most of them are the Extra-long wheel base which is bordering on ridiculously long!

So this week I finally found a reasonable example (disabled owner so it hasn't been used for taxing) for a good price and I had to have it! The plan is to convert it into a day van which in my mind would just consist of installing a pop-top sleeper-roof, fold-out table and 240v mains inverter.

It also makes an extremely comfortable place to fly from in winter, I've already started to plan how I'm going to build a FPV 'roof pod' and mount a large TV inside for some heated, back-seat FPV!!

Nice one mate, that will definitely be nice in the winter. Maybe a nice fold down screen? I just went the opposite way....I just got an Audi TT! I went for the coupe rather than the soft top because the boot is actually decent and the useless rear seats fold flat to give a fairly long boot, just big enough for my penguin lol!

I find that increasingly disturbing the more i look at it!

I just took that in...

Thunder, you stick your penguin in your Audi TT lol - I'd love to see that ;)   seats up of course?

Haha, seats up, not a chance, but back ones down it fits. I'm hoping my 2.7m cyclops will fit somehow! I'll take a pic when I give it a go!

Saying that, if you don't know of the finwing penguin, that sentence may seem a little odd...and then adding the cyclops.....just to clarify I'm not running a zoo or away with the fairys! 😀

WOWZA that's a big FPV screen :D..

I'm looking to go with a 28-32" display and have it mounted to one of the B/C-pillars  on a quick-release VESA arm so it can be moved out of the way when required or completely removed :D

You could get a huge screen in that :)

Nice one chap, I have fancied those but damn they are either pricey as  :censored:  or have a million miles on em.

Looks like a perfect winter FPV spot. I WANT!

That's why its taken me a so long to find one (and I hope I don't regret it).. I've ended up going for an older one than I would have liked but its probably saved me about £10k
