Title: FrSky RSSI
Post by: George_uk on October 15, 2014, 06:26:31 PM
People who use Taranis and X8r!

What RSSI do you get at 1.5km?

I can make it out that far and its down to 46/50db

I switched to the 40cm antenna and now debating to go back to the PCB antenna and try to mount them correctly on my tiny AXN.

I was flying about 200m high and had clear line of sight. Video was solid.

When cruising around nearby I get something in the 70db range but never higher.

I have no idea what is acceptable levels and how far you can push it.

Perhaps I should just get an auto pilot OSD haha

Answered my own question I think.

After having my 40cm antenna routed along the wing next to the plastic spar I repositioned one of them so it was completely clear and straight hanging down from the wing. Had the Taranis antenna pointing up like a tower and got a much steadier RSSI drop when I flew out to 1.7km. At that distance it was in the 50db range. Also no more sudden drops in the turn home.

Result  :D

Result :)

I didn`t ever look at my numbers, didn`t really care. When  "RSSI level low" is announced I just keep going, only to really pay any attention at all until she says "RSSI Critical" then I knew it was time to turn back
