Title: hubsan h107d controller vrx
Post by: petrithedish on November 04, 2014, 04:01:33 PM
Hi all! I'm new to this site and Fpv so please excuse my newbishness  ;D...
Anyway I got my first fpv quad a couple of months ago (hubsan h107d). I really loved this little quad, especially the fpv element and since then have learnt quite a lot, crash into less walls and've got a lot better at soldering. However through a series of acts of idiocy and bad luck find myself with two controllers and no copter due to its untimely death.
I was wondering if there are any vtx's that could be used with say the Q4 nano or standard X4 and would work with the original controller. I've found a tiny 25mw Storm-rc transmitter but would it be compatible?
My only other idea is to get a vtx-rx pair and modify the controller itself. Does anyone have any ideas/advice?

you need to check the frequencies of the vtx line up with your Vrx.
My Hubsan FPV has some frequencies that transmit on the same band as my fatsharks pick up but not all of them.

depending on how you want to play it you may be better off going for the new horizon hobby camera/Vtx combo this way you should be able to pick up the signal on your RC transmitter and in the future when you get more kit it will work with the immersion RC gear.

this hobby is a slippery slope and once bitten by the bug you will find yourself spending lots of money!!

Hi Steve, yeah the little camera they do looks wicked and i do want to get some goggles at least. To be honest though I thought it may be a little cheaper to make one up as unfortunately my financial situation gives me excellent grip at the moment ;).
I'll look into the hubsan bandwidths though and see what I can cook up and perhaps next year i can get some better gear.
Thankyou for your advice though, much appreciated!

Hi Peter,  it is always cheaper to make it yourself or put kit together yourself, but many start with plug and play only to find it doesn't work with any other stuff so when you buy the new the thing you have to start over.  The old addage buy cheap buy twice really does apply.  Do you still have the hubsan? It may be possible to repurpose the gear in that.  There are plenty of cheap options out there check-out the quantum goggle from hobbyking it is basically a small screen in a box that straps to your head with a lense to focus it.  It is about as cheap as you can go and is great for doing for rides when you eventually get your goggles.

Remember to start simple you will be amazed how far away 500m is when you first get into it,  lots of people come onto the site asking what they need to go 20 km away without any prior knowledge  the answer is always a unanimous get to 1km and be comfortable with that first.  As a result it makes sense to do what you said and build your kit up over time as your experience builds. This will never be a super cheap obsession but it can be affordable.  A lot of equipment Is really  modded cctv gear which can be bought quite cheaply or built from scratch easily enough if you can solder.

Good luck and welcome.

Yes, I think perhaps I'll research some more before I get too clever and stick with just renewing the hubsan for now, its amazingly easy to lose at only 50m and a 2m space is incredibly narrow when your not used to the controls. I think it's the coolest thing just negotiating the house anyway haha if only these were around when I was younger!
I did see those but I think I'll wait a bit longer and get some second hand fatshark goggles as they have the built in reciever... and look like less neck-ache!
Thanks again for your time and advice steve.

A quick update, I have since found out through plenty experimentation that as long as you have something hubsan to bind to your vrx/controller you can use any transmitter that tunes to 5 or 0 in the 5.8GHz range.
I do quite like to keep the controls though so I've designed and made a biplane out of polystyrene, shaped by countless hours of sanding and trial/error etc. I've used a hubsan spyhawk reciever board in conjunction with a 15A esc, 800kv motor with 7x6E prop, 2x towerpro metal gear servos for the double ailerons and 2x 2.5g servos for the rudder and elevator. I've only used a 2s battery so far but will try 3s as well.

Anyway that's probably fairly boring for all you veterans out there but i thought if there were any newbies like myself with hubsan controllers and no hubsans then it may help a little.

Sounds cool, just remember that the range of the little hubsan rc controller won't be too far. It is difficult to exceed it on a micro quad but a fixed wing plane will easily fly out of range if you get carried away.
