Title: Laminating question - help please
Post by: wgt40w on November 09, 2014, 11:42:59 PM
I'm preparing to start building up a fixed wing Specter.

Included with the kit is clear laminating film to 'iron' on to the fixed wings.

This will be the first time I have attempted to laminate anything. There is a video showing in general how to do this. What it does NOT show is the basis of my question:-

On a foam fixed wing with moulded in foam ailerons, how do you laminate over / around the aileron hinge line ??

I found trying that didn`t work, the hinge line shrinks and it pulls the hinge too tight so I cut the hinges off, lam around it then tape the separately laminated ailerons on.

Thanks Ian.

I hadn't thought of cutting the whole aileron off. I thought it might be that just the film was cut along the hinge lines, leaving the standard foam hinge line not covered / covered by separate clear packing tape.

Would either of you bother with using any plastic aileron hinges ??

I happen to have some lying about - both the stick on the surface type and the pin type pushed into the thickness of the wing / aileron.

I have used an iron on hinge system for years both on lite weight models and big gassers. I used to get it from a company in Wales by the meter but cannot remember the name. It's similar to this http://rchingetape.com/description.htm
