Title: FlyingWings Storm 50" wing
Post by: Sheldon Holy on June 04, 2011, 02:47:37 PM
Hi,

Here's my new FPV ship.

For starters, here's the whole model:

(http://s2.postimage.org/2kcvp5uxw/CIMG5527.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2kcvp5uxw/)

... And the underside. The colours on the underside are the exact opposites of their counterparts on top.

(http://s2.postimage.org/2kdki82ck/CIMG5533.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2kdki82ck/)

... And an annotated picture of the location of everything.

(http://s1.postimage.org/23zpsflc4/Presentation1.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/23zpsflc4/)

Key:

1. FirstPersonView.co.uk Video 2.4gHz VTx.

2. WDR700 flight camera.

3. Corona 8 channel dual conv. synthesized 35 mHz R/C Rx.

4. EzOSD 10Hz GPS sensor.

5. Futaba S3003 standard servos (I know I should have used small ones to save weight, but I'd rather 80 grams more with good, strong reliable servos that won't just strip or break).

6. EzOSD 100A current sensor.

8. (I think I forgot about 7 LOL) 3300mAh 3s Li-Po.

9. Li-Po balance lead and connector for the balancer in the ESC (ESC balances the battery as it discharges) and also for power to the FPV system.

10. HobbyWing Guard 40A ESC.

11. Keda 2217 1600Kv motor-soon to be replaced with a BRC Hobbies 2217 1500Kv model.

12. AeroNaut CAM 7X6 folder.

BTW the camera isn't bent it just looks like it. Also the AUW is 1100g. FlyingWings recommended about 600g for a average electric Storm.

Here's the rest of the piccies:

Close up of the camera mounting.

A mod I did on the VTx-a small LED on the top showing me if power is flowing to it. I know it doesn't mean its actually transmitting.

That'll do for the mo. I can't get any more pictures to upload. I'll try again later.

Sheldon

Hey hey!

Here's a couple more:

(http://s1.postimage.org/2kfi9gatg/CIMG5535.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2kfi9gatg/)

Current sensor somewhere in there, all the rest of the wiring is to the right of it all screwed up in there. I was dumb enough to make the Rx inaccessible without some surgery. Nothing too serious though.

(http://s2.postimage.org/3260ddask/CIMG5536.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/3260ddask/)

At least I remembered a hatch for the EzOSD :) .

(http://s2.postimage.org/32pfxp3ok/CIMG5539.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/32pfxp3ok/)

The Li-Po sitting in it's little burrow.

And a couple of the ground station.

(http://s4.postimage.org/pb1ynzc4/CIMG5548.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/pb1ynzc4/)

That is a little box with switches and LEDs on it for turning on individual components. This picture is with the lights off...

(http://s1.postimage.org/2l6262w90/CIMG5550.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/2l6262w90/)

... And on.

Thanks,

Sheldon

Are you sure that is not the Flyingwings Slipstream? I only suspect that because I have only just finished building one myself.

By the way where did you get your folding pusher prop from?

I can't remember where I got the prop from, sorry.

Yes that is the Storm, this is just the 50" bigger brother. The shape is identical. Your Slipstream is 40".

Ahhh... thanks for clearing that up. Very nice setup.

Thanks.

BTW for anyone wanting a Storm, you have to look under slope soarers on the website. It is designed as a slope soarer but is great powered as I found. Also if you want the motor mount and stuff call them and they'll add it for free.

Nice layout Sheldon

It looks like the Storm is not available at the moment but Flyingwings are always helpful when you call them. I have a Raven but I think it is a bit small for FPV .I maybe able to use one of Firstpersonview's new 1g nano cameras , might be worth experimenting to see how it goes with the extra weight.

Thanks John.

Weird they've taken down the add to cart sign. I'll call them tomorrow about that.

I think a standard VTx from Simon (his are very light no metal cases etc...), and those cameras seem good quality and are actually very cheap. I'd go for it, I think the Raven would be perfect for a close-range muck about calm weather little FPV model.

Hi Sheldon

I have a VTx from Simon and your right - it is very light , I think the Raven should be ok with it. I have a WDR700 flight cam too so I may give it a go ,as you suggested, for a short range FPV . The Raven is quite lively (it was on Saturday as it was fairly windy) but definitely worth a try.

Here's what to do:

Just tape the WDR700 somewhere that won't affect the CG too much, then tape the VTx somewhere, and run it off your balance lead.

There ya go. Great fun that'll be :) .

Ill post some as soon as I have taped the FPV gear on  - I have to swap the Rx to 35mhz too but fortunately I have a spare corona dual conv kicking about and I have just programmed my 35mhz TX to run the Raven.
