Title: micro Skywalker
Post by: g.collins on July 05, 2011, 09:52:19 PM
I have been busy building the long wing Multiplex Fox, when I had an idea for the left over wing tips, 290mm wing span when ther glued together, I haven't made a scratch build for a bit, so I got my laptop out and designed this, its based on the skywalker, 10mins on the laser and a mornings build and her it is, I disided to build some standard wings just in case the wing tips are to radical, the standard wing span is 392mm, I have an 3g AP03 motor to go on that runs on 1s lipo, @ just over 50g of Thrust, and Der I say my 7g FPV gear on it, I wont to see how small is possible, I placed a 300mm rule to give scale.
G :)

I'd be quite happy with a LAyzer... if it cuts foam neatly too, awesome!!

But then I'd have no excuse to buy a volcano and take over the world???
Although, admitedly... it's a more practical short term solution :)

Her is an update of the Sky toddler, Wat with all the ran and wind this weekend, I have finished it of, hear are some shots of the build.

I have disided to use a Spektrum 6 channel risever, with 2 built on servos, with a separate brush less 3A ESC.

(http://s1.postimage.org/1pdwa4f0k/under_wing_compartment.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/1pdwa4f0k/)

Just like the big Sky walker, I cut a hatch in the side of the fuselage.

(http://s1.postimage.org/1pf3a3fus/side_hatch.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/1pf3a3fus/)

it was necessary to mack a lever to connect the elevator.

(http://s1.postimage.org/1pggw7uo4/elivater_mec.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/1pggw7uo4/)

I fixed the aileron servo to the top of the wing, so it doesn't interfere with the innards, of the plane.

(http://s3.postimage.org/3jgsv6ys/DSC_4481.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/3jgsv6ys/)

I have fixed the Video transmitter, camera and battery all on the pod all in weight is 10g.

(http://s1.postimage.org/1pgnid8n8/todler_pod.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/1pgnid8n8/)

this tacks the howl plane up to a total flying weight of 47g

(http://s1.postimage.org/1pj9s00sk/toddler_on_scales.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/1pj9s00sk/)

It has a 390mm wing span, and is powered by a AP03 brush less motor

(http://s3.postimage.org/330qgy6c/sky_toddler_2.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/330qgy6c/)

the next step is to strap the go pro to it

(http://s3.postimage.org/33fmb2mc/gopro_toddler.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/33fmb2mc/)

I have to what now for this miserable weather to pass, so I can get out ther and test it.
this is the smallest lightest FPV I have made so far, whats next?

hear is the micro fleet.

(http://s3.postimage.org/3ebkobno/micro_fleat.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/3ebkobno/)

looking forward to post the maiden flight soon.
regards G

Hi Funky Diver

Lol, I do get the odd tut from my wife, about my stuff everywhere, I have started hanging my big planes in the stair well,

Pasty, they are pretty fast. to fly, I recon I would need a hall to fly, I have flown the quad in the house, its a bit dodge going thru doorways, but I guess I will get the hang of that.

The sky toddler, does not fly, it seems a bit underpowered, I think it could do with a more powerful motor.
its not the most streamlined of birds.
Orwell you can't win em all.

Hey G I ordered the mini skywalker (890mm wingspan) and I'm blaming you cos I probably wouldnt have ordered it if I hadnt seen your micro! Anyway should be here early next week, I got the last one in stock from bevrc so I will do a build thread on it. Should be about 350g AUW.
