So, my EZ is ready for flying again :) It has been fitted with a Brushless Motor and 30A ESC courtesy of Sheldon Holy, thanks again.
Now for some pics :P

It used to have the decals but I removed most as they were peeling off...
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4pstog4/ezstar002.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4pstog4/)
Thats the nose after I re-set it, all the FPV gear is inside the canopy
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4rgd0xw/ezstar003.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4rgd0xw/)
The Camera mount is glued to a servo horn, the servo is a old Hitec HS50 I had lying around
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4t3wdfo/ezstar004.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4t3wdfo/)
You can't see it very well, but there is a large gap I made to reset the nose, it has wood filler, cocktail sticks and some metal rod to keep it in one piece.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4urfpxg/ezstar005.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4urfpxg/)
Same as above ^^^
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4wez2f8/ezstar006.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4wez2f8/)
The rubber bands are not a safety feature, they break and the canopy will come off...
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4y2iex0/ezstar007.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4y2iex0/)
I was having Cooling Problems with the motor, this solved them, on a new EZ, there are 3 tabs that space the motor, but these have been ripped out as I have replaced the motor 3 times so it wasn't getting any cool air.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p4zq1res/ezstar008.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p4zq1res/)
ESC doesn't even get warm, its taped in place, thanks Sheldon!
(http://s3.postimage.org/p54onsw4/ezstar009.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p54onsw4/)
So far, this is the best way I have found to store my 1/4 length antenna
(http://s3.postimage.org/p57zqhvo/ezstar010.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p57zqhvo/)
These cable ties are also not a safety feature, but the motor is also Araldited in place.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p59n9udg/ezstar011.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p59n9udg/)
As I had the RR version, this means I didn't have access to all the hidden compartments. Things are a bit cramped...
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5bat6v8/ezstar012.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5bat6v8/)
I have stuck my OSD to the inside of my canopy.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5cycjd0/ezstar013.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5cycjd0/)
Those are the servo leads, and the wires at the top connect to my Elogger
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5g9f8ck/ezstar014.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5g9f8ck/)
My ailerons are powered by 2 Hitec HS 55's, I am using Pivot-grippy things like on the rudder and elevator.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5hwykuc/ezstar015.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5hwykuc/)
Same things are on the Horns connecting to the rods.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5jkhxc4/ezstar016.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5jkhxc4/)
I made a shallow slit which the cable runs along, the aileron is 40CM long, so should provide enough effect.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5mvkmbo/ezstar017.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5mvkmbo/)
My Duck tape container for the 6V NIMH that powers everything except motor.
(http://s3.postimage.org/p5oj3ytg/ezstar018.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p5oj3ytg/)
Same as ^^^ but with battery in.

My Precise, professional wiring :P
Thanks for looking
BW
Hi Badwolve1
instead of elastic holding your canape on, haw about some Velcro straps.
Are you trying to get a job in the maintenance department for Ryan air.
 G
I will order some one day...
BW
PS: How did you know ;) :P
lol, im gonna have to step up my taping, cutting and bodging by the look of it ;D
BTW you really want your radio antenna trailing behind the plane, not wrapped around it :o
Lol, you should have seen the amount of tape on it before its facelift :P
As for the antenna, its only like that when I am carrying it around, in flight it trails behind.
Still, I re maidened it (Full FPV, 2 batts and Ailerons) and it went well, initially...
The ailerons throw i reduced to 75%, this was a mistake and i have turned them back up to 100% making it more sensitive
I have updated the Firmware on the OSD, Elogger and FPV station, which wiped the tracking settings :( so no FPV today.
The other problem is that this is BETA firmware, so the OSD readings of the voltages were all wrong
and to top it off, somehow the motor over heated! I mean, how much airflow does it need?!!?
But still, no crashes and it is powerful enough to climb at 30* ish.
So, list of stuff i am going to do:
1. Remove NIMH batt and power all from Lipo
2. Make a tunnel under motor to help with cooling
3. Flatten Dihedral wingtip things
4. Restore stable firmware to OSD ETC...
BW
Ok, so in change of my last post, there is a newer firmware so I will try that before i go for the older firmware
BW
Hi BW
not exactly like this, but I think you need something to direct air to the motor, the equipment in front of it is shielding the cool air, just stick something above the motor, like half or a tube with a gap between the motor and the tube, the prop will draw air throw to cool the motor.
:) G

Thanks for diagram, understand what you mean now, I reckon an old coke bottle will be quite good for this :)
I will report back when done :P
Thanks
BW
Just get a plastic spoon and use it as a scoop, works a treat and won't drag as much :)

Lol, might try that later if the one i have made doesn't work, I will post a pic in a minute...

With the esc that much in the open, the motor too, im struggling to see why your motors overheating unless its completely the wrong kv

Well i have stuck on the "Wing" now, so lets see what happens, I don't have any info on the motor, need to ask sheldon, He gave me a 5.5X5.5 prop, and i plan on ordering a 6X4 soon.
Gordon suggessted that the VTX could be blocking the airflow, this is possible. Still, glue is amlost dry and will post pics later :)
BW
I wonder if your motor is binding - i'd be surprised if lack of airflow was making it hot enough to put a blister on your finger :o
Binding?
ok, so i have finished my mods and am going to have an LOS Flight later today.
Things I have done:
1. Try to flatten wing tips
2. Removed 6v pack, all powered from BEC
3. Added Cowling - Hood thing recomended by G
4. Increase Aileron throws
So, I will see what happens and report back :)
BW
I want to see FIRE!!!! er.. *cough* I mean, good luck - hope your overheating problem is sorted ;D
When I strap some Estes model rockets to it, you will be the first to know ;)
Unfortunatly I didn't manage to fly it as it got dark before i got out :(
BW
Ok, here is my motor Canopy:
(http://s3.postimage.org/vqgayo04/DSCF3884.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/vqgayo04/)
I plan to restick it at a better angle though, its fowling on the cabletie
BW
Re-moulded the spoiler thingy, will post pics later
BW
don't worry about the pics mate, get out there and see if it works.

WEll the wind has picked up, so it might not br until tonight.
BW
Okay, I didn;t manage to fly today, I had everything ready, and then when doing pre-flight checks, and my left Aileron servo had siezed up, Fixed it now, but it was dark when so no flying :(
Might have time oto test on sunday, heading up to Monmouth tommorrow and Saturday
BW
I think we are all awaiting your test flight results with great anticipation ;D
dizzy ;)

Lol, well might go at in a minute, the ground is soaking so no FPV as i reckon it will short out :P but wil LOS in my local field
Will report back later...
BW
Ok, so I flew it.
It was a bit more nippy with only 1 batt, but still needs a bigger prop.
The coowling helped, but it isn't working properly as the prop is to small to get it up to speed.
So i reckon that if I get a bigger prop, the rpm will be lower but it will be generatiung more power which means plane will go faster and cool motor better, so I will order a 6X4 from GC Later...
