Title: Flying near the Chiltern Hills
Post by: krikey on February 15, 2015, 04:32:51 PM
I met up with my flying buddies on Sunday for what should have been (according to Michael Fish) an OK day to fly. It didn't start well with Wayne (CurryKitten) losing video whilst a fair way away and all that he could see was the OSD. It turned out that water had shorted the unprotected boardcam. He did however bring it back in true British fashion, calmly supping a cup of tea whilst the RTH did its thing, only deciding to look up when RTH got its knickers in a knot when CK dialled in some kind of death spiral and then expected the RTH to know what to do. Needless to say the Falcon arrived safely due to some expert stick waggling by CK.

After some deliberation, a cup of filling station coffee, a drive around some of Oxfordshire, a 2 hour visit to the pub for a "quick" lunch and a discussion about Raiki, the Universe and everything, the collection of an Rx module as "someone" forgot theirs (numpty), we arrived at our final destination. Not because its what we planned, but most likely because we were fed up driving around aimlessly waiting for the weather to clear.

But clear it did for about 45 minutes and here's my take which due to my lack of balls, doesn't feature long distances or flying through gaps in clouds (the other two had APs flying the planes for them, telling them height, direction to home, when their brew was ready etc, whereas I was flying commando).

I'm not jealous at all, but lets just say that I wanted to be up there too :(

You guys got so close to hitting each other.  Shame I didn't have ground recording just to have your the sound of your screams recorded :)

Were you able to work out where you ended up when you weren't sure where exactly you were, or which way was back from your recording ?

Yes I was to the right of where we were sat, probably not far from where you went to the clouds, but a bit lower down.

That's a good vid Neil - flying commando pretty well despite the kak-ish weather! I only counted two incidents but now see there were three...

I think we handled the 'right of way' thing quite well :)
