Title: Hobbyking Drifter Ultralight
Post by: Shikra on March 24, 2015, 05:52:39 PM
Built this as a platform for helping develop MW-OSD for fixedwing

This is maiden flight! Bit rusty so close encounter with goalpost later in vid :)

Blimey! It looked like you were going in for another run at the end too, or were you looking to see if you'd shed some foam in the incident?

I've never had a run in with a goalpost where I came out on even terms.

That's a very unusual plane Shikra - nice OSD!

Cheers guys.

I didnt like it at first, but it kinda grew on me as I flew it. I think mainly cos its not trimmed up yet. And is a bit nose heavy.

OSD coming along. The vario isn't working and the direction to home arrow is all over the place. Got to figure out what they have done in the baseflight code for fixedwing.

Its a lot more stable to fly with the baseflight gyro enabled... really noticeable.
Level flying seems pretty good too. Great for launching..

OMG - what  a place to fly.... awesome.
Seems like there are drifters everywhere!

Mine is probably a bit on the heavy size - 2200 battery, full pan / tilt +all the OSD/FC/GPS/TRACKER

Couple of pics ... Don't look too closely :)

I'm liking the look of these guys, seems the high wing handles wind quite nicely too. Wonderful flight over the Loch! Could be a good night flyer?

I think the trick is probably to keep it simple and light. Mine is too heavy.
I do like that it doesn't seem to have any stall. Sometimes sharp turns felt more like flying a quad in that it would come to a standstill and not drop out of the sky.

Looks great , especially your camera mount!
Probably not too heavy - mine carried a larger motor and esc , 2200 3s Zippy lipo , HK gosd-3 with amps module , 1x panning servo with no16 cam , Orange Stabilizer, plus of course the fpv kit AND my compass ;D
