Title: My 2.6m scale FPV glider. . (Ogar)
Post by: rob.thomson on April 16, 2015, 05:32:52 PM
Been working on this one for a little while.

Its a scale model - called an Ogar.   Well suited to FPV as it ia a pusher prop.

I have a pan tilt roll unit up top.  This then feeds down to a cyclops storm, and 600mw vtx.

The wing has been modified to include spoilers to help with landing.

The antenna is located on the bottom of the model.  Half buried in foam.

I should hopefully have it finished this weekend.  Just a few bits to solder up.

The model itself has had mixed reviews.   Allot of people in the FPV community say that it has a bad tip stall.  However. .. regular LOS flyers say its great.  My suspicion is that the FPV guys are overloading the model.  Its designed to take a 2200mah pack, and to fly slow.

With this in mind I have avoided overloading it with batteries.   It could fit them, but hey..  its meant to be a thermal ship.  Not a log range over bloated battery shifter!

It looks nice, but oddly proportioned imo , the front end looks huge :)

indeed.

The full size aircraft is a tandem.   2 people side by side.

But makes install of gear really easy.  :)

I was out flying with Rob yesterday and saw this go. Have to say its a really lovely plane... Looks like full size in the air.

Also The 3 axis pan tilt cam and vario on the plane/Jeti Rx system makes it a really nice Thermalling FPV experience.

I'm hoping to get a similar setup going on my TechPod/ Taranis which I just got! for some lazy Thermalling action this summer!

Andy

In the youtube clip... at around 3:30 I hit a thermal.  Very quickly started to gain height!

Ok...   am toying with selling my Ogar.

I have it well dialed in... so would sell it with all kit excluding rc receivers and battery.

I am thinking very seriously about doing myself a 3.7m soarer.

So...  any offers?

I would sell it with:

Model
Esc
Camera
3 axis camera
600mw 32ch vtx
Cyclops breeze

I  ant post it...   so collection from  Guildford.

Open to offers in the region of £200

Rob

Sounds like a bit of a bargain for that money. Should be a nice relaxing model for the summer.

2.6 m , would consider it but :

Do I need a lorry to transport it
Do I need 2 km runway for takeoff
Do I need 2 km runway to land it
If not taking off from runway how many people needed to lift it off the ground
What size hanger I need to store it

Otherwise I am temped ...

It breaks down quite small.

2 wing half's,  and a fusalage.

It does not need a massive space to launch.  On 4 cell it climbs out at around 30 degrees.  4 cell is must have better.

The model has spoilers installed,  so landing is easy.  Full deployment gives  you a 1 in 1 glider angle!

Looks perfect weather... Perfect wind strength and direction AFAICS.
Funny to see the Power voltage stay at 12. 5 V for the entire flight!

Nice to see all the other planes on the hill as well.

What did the other fliers on the hill make of it?
Did you tell them that you are flying FPV?
Did they try to stay clear?

A lovely way to spend a sunny day  :)

Andy

It's was a superb day.

Everyone was on board with me flying.

I did the sensible thing.

1.  Spoke to the club first to check there where no issues.
2. Had a spotter
3. Let everyone know.

Most guys where very interested. .  With a number putting on my passenger goggles.
