Title: Amanojaku 1800mm Flying wing - What do you think of it??
Post by: Teamftp on May 13, 2015, 11:30:54 PM
Your thoughts on the new Amanojaku wing.

It is 1800mm, powered by x2 4000mah 4s and stays up for at least 40mins on a cruise. A nice flat bottom wing section for plenty of lift and stability.

Comes as a 3 section wing for ease of transport / fiddling.

HUGE payload area for pretty much anything you will need.

We have flown with x2 5600mah and done over an hour with it.

Let me know your thoughts so we can develop it some more. Much appreciated.

This looks exciting.

I'm rather partial to wings. I have a 60", a 52", a 40" and 37"

I have been very tempted by both the queen bee and the zephyr 82" wing.

A few questions/thoughts

What quality of EPP are you using? I have no scientific evidence for this- but I really do think there are different grades of EPP. I have had two different EPP wings- a Venturi and an original Zephyr. The Zephyr EPP is much higher quality and robust IMO. It just seems denser.

I fit two 4000 4s in my 60" wing easy. Am sure yours will carry a little more if needs be.

You considered specing yours for 5 or 6s?

One issue I have with larger wings is over a certain size they seem to become aimed at being quite floaty and gentle cruising, rather than the dual personality and massive speed envelope that a smaller wing offers.

Given the above- do you intend this wing to be a big basher capable of very high speed dives and super stiff? Or a big gentle cruiser like the X8? (With the option of being a thermal wing with a light enough setup).

Don't think me rude- but the centre section looks pretty basic. The Venturi centre section is fairly basic too, but def better than yours. The zephyr sections are quite nice.

A big disadvantage of wings is they rarely lend themselves to pan and tilt easily. If you can find a way around that- you have a big USP I think.

Perhaps it's the colour scheme of yours but I don't think the pics do it justice. Wings are supposed to look aggressive and yours doesn't. Change the colour scheme, redesign the centre section and perhaps make the winglets a bit more angular and aggressive and you will have a damn fine looking wing.

Phew. I will watch this with interest. Another big wing is the last thing I need but I must admit I'm tempted, particularly if you consider a few of my thoughts.

Thanks some really great suggestions there that will certainly be used.

The pep used is the good quality "tough stuff" that is very hard to damage. You can get low grade pep which is useless and super tough stuff which again ends up been to heavy and useless.

The only reason I have gone with 4000's is that I have loads of them. It has had 2x 5600 in it and is still the same flight characteristics.

Not tried 5s or 6s as it seems to be just fine on this. Might be worth a try in the future though.

The wing here is certainly designed as a floater as it has a flat bottom wing section. That said we have considered doing different wing section for people personal tastes.

The centre section is not the most aesthetic granted. However it holds LOADS of kit and is super strong. We are looking and some section for the sides to blend the pod to the wings more.

Also it is in three sections for easy transport.

Once again thanks as your comments were just what we were looking for.

Managed to improve the center pod today with a nice bit of magic :-)

Check out the x2 4000 4s in it!!!

That's a ddefinite  improvement to the centre section.

flying wings sell a flap to cover everything made from foam. Will you be using foam or plasticto cover the top? Plastic feels higher quality imo.

How easy is it to mount a go pro or mobius and board cam to the front? Again your competitors have made this pretty easy- although the aren't that protected in a crash.

As the nose on a wing takes the hit most of the time, even on routine landings,  skids on the nose made from plastic/corex are pretty handy.

How secure are the batteries?

Presumably you have removeable spars going through  centre? What stops the foam getting chewed up over time?
