Title: CFD on a wing

This may be of interest to people

I had suspicions that having a non-continuous trailing edge on a flying wing could cause large turbulence in the center section (where the motor cut out is), so i created a cad model of a generic wing. plopped it into ANSA and ran it on a 172 core 2Tb of ram cluster.

It took a total of 2 hour 40 to run.

Picture has been simplified so its easier to view.

I won't be drawing any conclusions till i run more tests

urm basically its wind tunnel testing but using a computer (cfd - computational fluid dynamics) . The blue is half a wing, green showing airflow. ANSA is the name of the computer program. So the idea is you can test ideas without having to crash anything :P

always wondered if one of these would better suit a model's wing as opposed to a fully flat winglet such as you find on the flyingwings.co.uk breed of wing

Hmm difficult to say, the advantage of a flat cross section is its response to various angles (behaves somewhat proportionally to slip angles) although less efficient.

Also the winglet used here is something i drew and from observation is too small (its much smaller than the ones flyingwings use which work better)
