I have recently build a Ritewing TW40 and I'm having some teething troubles with it.
It's a lovely quality wing- great quality EPP and stiff as a board. It took a fair bit more fettling and building than say the Falcon to build but it's extremely robust and great quality.
I have it mated to a 600W 4s and its a beast.
The maiden went extremely well and I had it dialled in great after 1 battery. The throws were way too high- I have tried to minimise these mechanically but they are still very high but she's otherwise great. I flew her a few days later and again she was fine.
However- my third flight- on a much windier day- was terrible. Launching was ok, although she didn't feel quite right- but within 20 seconds she was spiralling down nose first to her death. I just about recovered in time for a soft landing but it was close. I did the same thing again and the same thing happened. Anyway- I put it down to being near trees and some crazy wind/vortex thing and thought nothing of it as it was semi windy.
Flying again today and a friend- who's 10x the LOS pilot I am (although mainly helps) had a go. She seemed to fly fairly well after a bit of trimming- although she did need plenty of throttle as it was very windy and then- when he was high and quite far away- she went berserk again and spun around at silly speed like a dart falling towards the ground. Again he just about recovered but lost 50m on height in a millisecond. It was super windy today. But he was running 80% throttle all the time.
Can someone explain this? The wing is a reasonable weight for its size, has a decent motor and I haven't changed anything between flights.
I have flown a few tail heavy wings before but none of them have behaved like this. Is this a very aggressive stall/spiral to death as a result of a tail heavy plane? I have never experienced this in other wings despite some of them being pretty tail heavy!
When the C.G is too far back on a wing you have to trim with less "up elevon". The angle of attack at the tip effectively increases or IOW there is less "washout" or downward twist at the tips. That makes the wing prone to tip stall. Once stalled it is difficult to recover as the tail surfaces arent separate. They too are stalled.
A remedy is to move the C.G forward

i loaded it up with some nose weight today as it happens and it flew much better :)
