Hi people,
I have just got my Falcon EVO out the box and started looking for potential issues. Only 1 that I can see and that is fitting the Cyclops Tornado inside the 'other kit' bay.
As some people will know, the Tornado has a direction it needs to face, which works out great for a long airframe like a skywalker, but not a shorter wider bay like the one in the Falcon Evo.
Here Is a pic of how it doesn't fit and how much space it needs:

So I have come up with 2 solutions and wanted to see what you guys thought:
1: Cut into the wall on the rear of the bay like this (only in the centre where the ports are):

2: Try and cut/bend the pins to face up instead of out to the back and front. It would then fit:

Option 1 seems easier but I'm a little worried about cutting into the airframe, hope it wouldn't weaken it etc.
Option 2 would be great but quite hard work and in risk of damaging the board?
I would say cut a recess into the back chunk of foam, you will need the front for the LiPo (of course you know that).
If the board would have come without the 90 degree servo pins soldered, you could have bought some straight servo pins and soldered them on yourself... the way it is now, it would be a nightmare to de-solder all those pins... although I'm sure someone would be able to do that with ease if they had the right equipment.
Yeah it would definitely be easier to cut away some of the EPO than mess with those pins :)

I did exactly what you have described for option 1 with my Tornado on the Falcon I built, worked fine. Made it a bit of a pain to take out but it kept it nice and still!

At the moment I've hit another snag \0/ it appears that i have a central fuselage that doesn't match the wings (?)
My wings have a circular hole and a circular carbon spar to go through them, but the hole on the fuselage is a ribbon shape and about about 1 inch further back than the wings!
Put a pic up Adam may help us understand what you mean. The spar inserts into the fuselage 52mm from the rear- there's a slit visible from the top which i filled with gorilla glue.
Re your original question- i have a vector in mine which just about fits. I don't think it matters too much where you cut as hole to fit the autopilot in- if you're worried about strength you could easily reinforce the area with a lollypop stick, BBQ skewer, or even 2mm fibreglass spar. This isn't a mental G force crash and bash wing though, whatever you do to it......
One thing to consider- i use the Multistar 4000 3s. It just about fits in the front and gives great flight times for a neglible difference in weight from a 2200. However- if you want super long flight times, i fit a second identical battery to the back of the space (where you are fitting your autopilot). This gives me 8000 of 3s. Stall speed is increased of course, and as im using a very efficient motor launching is a bit of a challenge- but when shes airbourne she's cruising on 6-7A. God knows what the range is. The hatch doesn't quite fit down, and i keep the current sensor outside and a bit of tail weight, but for super long flights it's great.
So- however you mount the autopilot- keep it low down so you can fit a 4000 3s in the back if you want to carry lots of maH!

Here is a pic of my problem. It seems some came with a slit (as mine did) and some came with a circular hole.
My carbon spar is cylindrical.

I think they've sent you either the wrong wings or the wrong centre section.

Ah that doesn't look right :s wrong part by the looks of Things!
The only criticism I have with the falcon is it doesn't cope with wind very well. Most small wings don't to be fair......
But, although she def flies "better" with just the one battery, the weight of the autopilot and second batt does help her handle wind a bit better, which is a bonus.
Ive had a reply from Rob @ Flyingwings. The fuselage they sent me is the old version. I should have received the new version that has the cut out for my cylindrical spar.
A new one is in the post.

So I have the new fuselage, arrived today... and something still isn't right :(
Now it has the correct hole for the spar, and so do the new ply side panels...
BUT... the fuselage is wider, which isn't a problem... unless the ply bits that go inside are the right length for the older smaller fuselage.

Ok so it turns out this is some sort of prototype and its not meant to be this wide :'(

do you have an easy way to slice off some of the foam so the ply innards are the right length?
or will you ask them to send new middle bits
there's also no recess in which to install the motor mount

No thanks bud, my wing halves are already glued together and laminated, with the motor mount also already installed... would be a chore to take it all apart again, but thanks for the offer :)
