Couldn't resist flying yesterday when the weather was surprisingly lovely.
This is my first attempt at cloud surfing in my bixler 1.1. Could have done with a couple more clouds but I'm not complaining...

It was a lovely view. I know what you mean about the weather. Looks like it's going to be windy, rainy and cold for some more weeks.
Great footage, was it nice and smooth on top of the white fluffy stuff because it looked smooth?
Started fitting the pan & tilt on the Twinstar ready for some formation flying for when the weather improves, sent you a pic to show I've not been lazy, issh lol

You were right. It was very smooth. I though it would be a lot bumpier but no issues at all. We are up about 500feet before we get off the ground do it wasn't too much of a climb to get amongst the white stuff.
Very enjoyable :) It's great your first and subsequent cloud surfs :)

Looks great! Everywhere looked surprisingly green for this time of year.
I think I'd find the head tracker a bit disorienting. Did you land LOS, or just super casual looking to the side?

Yeah, very green. Must be all that rain!! Head tracker is surprisingly quick to get used to. I confess I landed LOS this time.

with me, it all depends on which site I'm flying from... if it's the farm, then I land "in the goggles" mostly because it's a massive field with a makeshift runway mown on it... easy to see where you're supposed to be landing, and if you land too far away, it's not hard to just go walk over to it.
if it's the hill however, I've only got a flat enough landing area about the size of about 6 medium sized parking spaces in a 3x2 configuration.... so I try to land LOS most of the time, especially in less than perfect weather. If I miss the spot, then it's a quick slide down the hill to get it, but a tough slog back up to the top afterwards... If I "land" to early, then I plough straight into the side of the hill... effectively the same as nosediving into flat ground... and if it's too far away, we're into the trespassing on other people's land territory lol

Hi Blueflyer.
I know what you mean. I have landed a few times using the googles and even though I am landing on flat ground, I tend to come in a bit heavy. I find the height and speed on the final approach a little difficult to judge accurately, but I think that comes with practice. I could go by the OSD data I guess, but it tends to be a bit of white knuckle ride in the final seconds before landing, so I tend not to look at the OSD as I am trying not to stall or crash.
My faithful Bixler is temporally retired now as I have transferred all my gear into my new Skywalker 1900. I will post some vids soon (assuming I don't smash it into a 1000 bits on my first flight!!).

I assume you won't as they're so easy to fly! I only fully appreciated this fact when trying to maiden my Falcon Evo a couple of days ago :laugh:

I have my fingers crossed for a maiden flight this week when the wind dies down a bit. Oh dear - what happened to the EVO? Hoping it wasn't too bad.
I found it difficult to judge height when first landing with the goggles on. A few goes with a competent spotter talking me in had me quickly get the hang of it without breaking stuff!
