Got home after 4 weeks work, weather was decent so thought 'let's fly!'.
Started off with the Gravity 250 zipping about. Apart from tagging a couple props on trees all was good until the video feed crapped out away from line of sight. :o
After searching all over the local fields with no luck I thought I'd try an arial search with the Hornet Mini Wing. That also ended badly with the wing at the very top of an alder tree. :-[
A chainsaw rescue was the only way to get it back!
The racing quad c/w GoPro session is still lurking out there somewhere at the base of the NY Moors.........bummer!!
D'oh, hope you get it back.
Not got a lost model alarm on it then? (obviously)
Oh damn, it will be hard to find, I once couldn't find mine when it went down less than 50ft away. The long grass meant a visual wasn't going to happen and the birds were making that much noise I couldn't hear the lost model alarm. I did eventually but it was pure luck, I hope you get it back.
It has a beeper on and LED's but there is every chance the battery parted company when it finally came down as I couldn't see or hear anything.
Nothing in the grazing land surrounding us, will start trawling through the wood tomorrow.....
It's peeing it down now too :'(
Maybe not much help hours after the event but maybe worth a try if it happens gain. Twice I have lost models, due to disorientation, and only had a rough idea where they were. Unluckily for me both came down in fields full of crops making finding so much more difficult. Luckily however the motors could still be run up so I simply kept flicking the throttle until I could hear them which helped guide me to the target. On both occasions they would have been impossible to find unless standing within inches.
Here's my crash from a while back ... would have been in the field for ages looking for it without a beeper (crash at 2:30)

What happened there?!

Hope you find it mate. I know how it feels as i've had to search for my 250 before thinking i'd lost it.
A lot of these lost model stories end well though... I quite liked this one:

Bad ESC -> Motor joint, sorted by ditching the brass connectors and just soldering directly.
Been looking for it all morning with no luck. Thought the dog might have sniffed it out in the wood but no.....
Last plan of attack is to climb the hill just to the south of us with binoculars too see if it has travelled further than I think.
It is a white one so normally stands out well against the grass.
One of the local farmers or gamekeeper will find it eventually but it may take a while.
This is the primary reason why I built www.ukdroneregister.co.uk (http://www.ukdroneregister.co.uk) so if someone randomly finds a quad then they have an avenue to contact the owner and give it back to them instead of either handing it to the police, or selling it on ebay. Relies on goodwill on behalf of the finder, but it's better than (by default) nothing.
You can either register and buy a sheet of stickers off me to help keep it running, or jot down the details and make your own.
I hope you get it back!
Right.... three pairs of eyes are better than one.
I've just been checking with Coyote (over in Redcar) and he's up for him and me (in Darlington) coming over on Sunday to have a look with you for your missing multi.
If you're up for a joint search just post back and we can sort out time and where to come, always good to meet uther flying buddies (not many of us up this way)
Would need to be late morning cos just realised it's Mothers Day and we've a few coming round in the afternoon for grub ;D
PK :)
Extra eyes more than welcome!
Not sure how we will fair looking for a white quad when snow is due Sunday!
I normally put my details on the SD cards in my Gopro's but I have to say I don't think I got round to it on the session....
Didn't spot anything from the hillside with binoculars either.
The misses joined in looking today and thought she would find it in 5 min, shows what she knows!!
Great, I'll pm you my mobile number and if you pm me your contact number and a good time to phone (Friday teatime sort of time) I'll give you a call and we can sort out a time and where to come.
I'll speak to Coyote (Ian) and let him know what time Sunday.... always weather permitting, Saturday looks like rain but Sunday looks ok at the moment.
Cheers
Paul
Get another quad out there with a good FPV cam and good video feed - it's amazing what you can find from above with a stable platform.
I've done it 3 times so far to locate two planes in crops and one quad in long grass.
T
Golden rule .. it's ALWAYS further away than you thought :)

Weather permitting I think I'll have a go at that tomorrow with one of the video quads.....

Covered a good 3/4 of a mile downwind from the last bit of video that was recorded in the open fields.
My concern is it has headed upwind and ended up in woodland where it will be extremely difficult to find it :(
Big thankyou to pk-surfing & coyote for coming out today to assist in the search for the missing Gravity race quad. :-*
Paul conducted a massive foot search of the local wilderness while Ian surveyed the area with his tricopter.
Whilst we did not come across it from the video downlink or ground search I am just working my way through the footage recorded today from the two multicopters in the hope of catching sight of it......
Cheers again guys,
Richie
Great day Richie really enjoyed meeting up.
Super coffee, super bacon butties, super location what more could anyone ask for ;D
When we get a decent weather forecast and we're all up for it we should meet for a proper flying session (and I might do another few miles hiking through the uncharted woodland !)
PK :)
Had a text from a local Farmer today...
'Is this yours?'

:o :overexcited: :overexcited: :ohyeah: :ohyeah:
Ah rated mate, nice one. So where did it end up?
Woohoo, result!
Was apparently in one of the fields we covered in the search. Was found by a guy doing some fencing for the farmer.
They are going hunting for the GoPro session that was on it today. I'm stuck on the ship so cannot go looking myself.....
Blimey, all that walking around in the woods for miles looking for it and all the time it was close by !
Fingers crossed they find the camera.
PK :)
Would be nice...
Will be interesting to plug it in and see how much of it works.
I didn't think you would ever see that again, what a result :)
