I've just done my Drak and set my iron to 145C and 155C for different areas BUT thats onto EPO foam so may be too high for polystyrene !
If you can I'd suggest trying a small piece of lam on a place that's not too obvious, start at maybe 120C and go up in 5C steps until the lam sticks well, no benefit having it hotter than needed.

I have the HK one and i think i had the dial at about 75%.
If you have a spare bit of EPO and laminate do a little test first.
Like the others said, testing is the best way to find out. Start low and slowly turn it up, different lams may have slightly different temps.
The best method ive found after lamming many many wings is to use spray adhesive, then put the lam down using a tea towel getting it as smooth as possible. Then I go over with the iron on low heat to get it really stuck and starting to shrink. Then I hit it all over with a heat gun to really shrink it all tight.
With that method I can get a near perfect smooth finish and the wing is like it has been shrink wrapped in lam.

I have never bothered to paint my planes. It never looks that great IME. But on my z3 I want to put a bit of colour on it and have some coloured sticky solar type film/laminate which I want to use. Should I
1) laminate first then put the solar film down on top?
2) put solar film/colouring down first, then laminate
If it's option 2 (which I suspect it is)- will the laminate stick to the solar film ok? Anything else I need to consider?
Use some of the spare bits of foam in the box to test.
My (tescos value basics) iron is perfect on wool setting :D
