This is a mission I've wanted to try for a while, but it doesn't go to plan. I've recently moved from the full sized ezUHF to the Jr module and a taranis, but the range is appalling.

That really was disappointing for the EZUHF. With my JR module I could get to 12km out on the diamond and a dipole. So surely your JR module is faulty if you're only getting that far.
Enjoyed the video though :)
I'm guessing that's why you went TBS?
Yeah wanted a unit that still plugged into the JR slot but didn't hit a brick wall at such a short distance.
Turns out it wasn't so simple as plug n play though. But that's for another thread :)
Yeah something is not right. First step is to keep the same setup and test at a known good location.
Then try checking noise on the plane and rebinding.
If that don't work then I'll try a dipole on the tx.
I've got another jr module I can try or test my trusty silver box version.
Final step is to send it back to immersionrc.
I'd say connect your ImmersionRC power meter up to it and see what figures its showing.
I don't have one mate. Might have to post it to you!
That has to be something external. Look at 14:08 onwards.... the RSSI dips and comes straight back up.
Nice confidence in the Ruby RTH though, you didn't even start to breathe fast :)

Oh I thought you had one, must have been someone else. If you want to send it over for a quick power readout then sure mate send it up, I'll post it back the same day.
If I was sitting down I would of been biting the seat!
It could be external, there is a life guard station with radar nearby.

Thanks, I might take you up on that depending on the tests I do
My JP module is so random sometimes. Yesterday I got out to 7km on low power and today in the same location I was getting RTH at 1.5km!
your video link looked pretty solid, is that 2.4?
Brucey, do you want to borrow my JR module? I'll be passing goes on Monday morning

Yeah its 2.4g, served me well to 13km.

Thanks, but I've got lots of bits to try first.

13km on 2.4! That's impressive, I take it its fatshark? what antennas?
I use a tbs groundstation with a tbs yagi. On the plane is a 700mw immersionrc vtx. The flight below was with the standard rubber duckie, I now use a flytron dipole.

Very informative thank you very much
