Seen this the other day on someone's facebook and was seriously impressed. No nonsense rust removal :)
Having worked with this technology for 26 years, I can confidently say your sand blaster was a wise choice Dizz....This hand held 1000 watt Scanning Laser will set you back some serious dosh....Like around 40K....Thats a lot of Sand Blast cabinets....Lol...
Oh, and dont ask about how much optics are or Laser tube re-gas is.....Or scanning mirrors are...Oh, and for Gods sake....Dont drop it......Okay.?

I wonder how good this would be for tattoo removals? ;)
It's great for tattoo removals. The only problem is you lose your limb as well. But hey, no more tattoo :D
sounds like a light saber
I thought the same....
I have no rusty things to use one on but I still want one because it makes such a cool noise ;D
thats the coolest thing ive seen in ages!
What happens to the rust? It can't just disappear.
Evaporated? I don't see clouds of smoke / vapour? Does the thingy blow out a stream of air to disperse the smoke & keep the lens clean?
Can't have been oxidised..Reduced back to iron? How?

You can hear the laser because the switching frequency is below 5khz....5khz is a fairly low frequency in Co2 laser terms, some can run at 20khz or even higher at above 6 to 7 khz they will be silent to the human ear....depends a bit on your hearing range...The temperature at the point of focus is in excess of 1000 degrees celcius, and yes, there will be an outflow of air to protect probably a sacraficial plain window....It just vapourises the oxidation on the surface basically due to the localised temperature gradient....A wire brush is a lot cheaper though...:)

At a cost of £200,000 I think I'd just buy a rubber. :)
