Title: Price differences
Post by: Gundummy on April 22, 2016, 12:31:44 PM
Is it just rip off Britain or is it just a case of being mugged off?  Having a nose through HK i noticed as much as a 40-50% price increase as compared to other countries :o

Funny enough some woman from rip off Britain or fake Britain, what ever the BBC TV prog is called, was posting on facebook the other day looking for stories about counterfeit/chinese drones.  :D

Not sure what you are referring to exactly but prices in any highly regulated market will always be higher.

I wonder how much of the kit we buy from China is in fact put together by children with no choice but to work 18 hour days for example?

It's all well and good when big companies like Apple can enforce rules on their supply chain but in terms of the kit we buy there's nobody watching and nobody caring as long as the price is right. It's depressing really. Whether it's tons of waste being dumped into their rivers or people being worked to the bone.

Tiger Moth Laser cut:

US Price £40
UK Price £77

That's just ridiculous... unless as Steve has said - It comes with drugs and a hooker ;D

If that's the case then take my money  :)

Most people who complain about "rip off Britian" do not understand economies of scale, exchange rates, import taxes or fixed & variable costs.

But that is from the respective US and UK stores right? So the UK one will include 20% VAT where as in the US taxes are cheaper and applied at point of sale in respective state. So I think it would be down to that in the main.

Recently I was attracted to a 'sale' offer at the Hong Kong 'branch'. However, when the shipping charge was added, the total was virtually the same as the UK branch price.
So, when looking at a 'cheap' US or wherever price - don't forget to add in the shipping costs.

The UK prices already include the cost of the goods having been shipped to the UK.
