I bought a Pocket DVR from first person view. Im looking for info on how to set it up for best quality to record FPV. What settings and memory card do you use? Also have you updated any firmware?
Cheers
You do not need it on high quality, it's a waste of time and with static on 5.8ghz can lock the unit up.
Instead select medium quality ( which you won't be able to tell the difference with ) and the lock up won't happen.
I have the audio set to record from the internal mic because it can pick up some very funny conversations from the ground during the flight.
If you find a tiny bit of tearing at ghetto top corner which I did with one of them I found recording with 2 bars of battery instead of full fixed it........go figure
I have three of them and the other two don't do it.
cheers for that, what about resolution?
Oh and frame rate
I'm out so I forget, they have a few odd ones but pretty much 640x480
I bought mine from readymaderc, and they claimed to have loaded it with custom firmware that got rid of the 8500kbps bitrate and instead, the highest it would do was 7000kbps... the image quality was still outstanding and it was quite frankly the best DVR I ever had (till I sold it to Ian lol).
I have mine handy (it's the BevRC one, but it's the same thing with a different splash screen)
Resolution: 640x480
Video Quality: Medium
File Length: 5 Min
Frame Rate: 30 FPS
The reason I use the 5 Min file length is because I have had a few lockups, and having to reset it has lost my entire file (sometimes >30mins) so 5 mins file lengths keep me safe. Of course it hasn't locked up since I set it
Cheers wayne. Looks like my DVR will be going back as i think its died. Screen totally blank. :censored:
Is it ?
You were not by chance playing with the AV output setting of it at the time ?
When you activate this the screen goes off. Normally you would have a screen plugged into it so you can still see the menus but if not you're just stabbing around in the dark.
That was the first thing i thought , so i plugged the cable to the av out and the the av in on my goggles and still nothing. :(
I'm assuming you have reset it with the pin to put it back to default settings ?
It was on charge. Worked before it went on charge. Unplugged it and switched it on and no screen. Gutted.
Yes tried that while the power light was on. Nothing happend.
I will try it all again tomorrow just to check i have tried everyway.
You may have to start up a support ticket with fpv.co.uk then. They really are good units, I have had 4 altogether, 1 broke ( FPVJapan version ) after a firmware update, the others ( firstpersonview versions ) are all still alive and kicking maybe two years on now.
Any update on this issue? I tried mine for the first time yesterday with the settings as advised and it has failed to record 3 separate 10 min flights and now I have a blank screen.
Update
As it was only 4 months old and only tested in the workshop, I've sent it back to those wonderful FPVUK people.

The replacement arrived and it looks the same. Only difference is it doesn't have the firstpersonview logo on the splash screen, it has vonista, suppose that's the manufacturer.
I noted that RMRC have stopped selling this as there was "problems with quality control from the manufacturer"

I took some video yesterday and I am trying to download it to Windows Movie Maker from the sd card in a card reader but with no luck. The file type on the card is AVI which I am sure is the same as the Mobius saves files as. Have I got a setting wrong somewhere?
EDIT
So the DVR records the video as an AVI file, I select the card reader from MM and import the file to the worktop. The audio downloads but not the video?? I have deleted and re installed MM with no change. Grrrrrrr!!
Here is a typical stupid noob question. I have been using the recorder using the internal battery, which is now flat. I cannot find anything in the manual that tell me how to charge it? I dont want to plug anything in in case I cluck it up! I have the AC adapter so do I just plug the USB lead with the round pin into the dc in socket and the other end into the adapter? And if I do what should I see led wise?
You need a 5v DC of 500ma rating. When you plug it in the green charge LED will come on.
Ok so I just plugged the supplied lead that has USB to round male pin into the Supplied mains adapter and the other round end into the Dec in socket. I now have the number 2 charge led on and the bright blue led on. Does that sound OK?
I would add that my DVD recorder from FPV does not have the FPV logo but vonister

Mine didn't cone with a USB to DC jack just an adaptor. Chant remember two LEDs being on while charging.
You just reminded me - mine needs charging :o
Yes, green and blue when charging.
I think one of them goes off when fully charged.
Edit - the blue one goes out when it's charged.
