Not sure if this is in the right section and please advise/move if otherwise
Im after the best place to get some lightweight glass fibre cloth and epoxy etc, im after coating the entire finwing air titan frame in it to make it bullet proof and try to decrease some of the wing flex also. also makes for a smoother painted surface from some of the blogs/ build posts I have read.
any help welcomed
Anything from a model shop I would have thought?
You have to use it pretty sparingly though to avoid adding too much weight.
Consider lamination instead.
I have never really understood why people paint their models. A quick spray maybe but the hours people spend on them, only to smash them up is crazy!
I think that fibre cloth goes round all the curves you get on the foam planes with ease and as for painting I just like to be different to be fair I spray mine to be honest most of the time just don't like the look of foam, the other upside is the size of the craft it reduces the wing flex extensively. I hav been looking at gliders distribution for kit and they seem to have most of what I think I'll need
Some people successfully use water based varnish instead of epoxy resin. It is easier to work with and clean up. Google "wing skinning" for tips and techniques. I have tried both and definitely find the varnish method easier. I haven't tried laminating but I have a pre-laminated wing in a kit. The finish is very good but I'm not sure if it does much for the wing flex. I always use carbon rods or strips to reduce wing flex on foamies.
Well got some cloth and epoxy from Stoke and had a go on the tails and I think I have done a good job seeing as I have never done it before
