Myself and CurryKitten were wondering if there was any pattern to whether people prefer clockwise or anti clockwise flight circuits and whether this had any bearing on what mode your radio was set up.

Both myself and CK seem to prefer Anti-Clockwise circuits and find ourselves doing these automatically on most occasions. We both have Mode 2 radios.

We make sure to practice both.

I do find it easier to yaw left and roll right tho. As that is pulling the stick outwards so it feels easier. (mode 2)

When I'm out on my bike I am much happier on left handers as well. Is it a left or right handed thing?

 Isn't everyone a habitual left turner?  :laugh:  I tend to make left hand circuits but right is really no more tricky  :laugh:

Mode 2 and thumbs all the way, tried pinching and despite what others tell me, it feels a lot less under control than with thumbs lol  :D

I'm the only one I go clockwise circle mode2 thumbs, mayby because I use left hand mostly for everything ?

I'm pretty sure is up to left or right handed people difference, not mode in TX.

Same here - Thumbs and naturally left handed circuits. Mode 2.
Same on a motorbike - much happier cranking it over on left handers.
Sometimes thought it might be because my first models were control line...

Only consistent thing for me is mode 2.

I seem to jump about thumbing & pinching depending on what I'm flying, how I picked up the transmitter or if sitting down.

Do you not think the circuit thing is down to flying clubs always going anticlockwise? Sloping is where I started flying so didn't fly circuits till much later....

Think you do need to make a conscious effort to practice manoeuvres both ways or you find you end up locked into one direction on the sticks.

To be honest it's not just LoS flying for me - I feel more comfortable turning left while in the goggles as well for some bizarre reason!

I'm same there with the left handed for writing, right for most other stuff, although I can write with both hands.

In goggles left or right turns are the same to me.

I have no preference what so ever.
I've always made sure that from my very first I try and even out the amount of left and right turns so I didn't 'build' any preference.
I don't recall ever having any form of natural preference either.
I don't tend to fly circuits though as i find it quite boring, I like different challenges from different angles. I'm very much a freestyle flier ;D

Im old school.....Mode 1, Aileron right stick, ...elevator left stick.....Its what we did back in the seventies when proportional radio was invented..
...For doing precision long slow rolls, separate Aileron and elevator controls, not on one stick as per Mode 2.
  Individual preference of course.....If you fly RC, you should be able to do any direction circuit without even thinking about it...?

I can do either circuits, that's not what was asked, what was asked was which is your prefered / natural circuit direction. I prefer or instinctively prefer to fly anticlockwise, I have no idea why, I just do. I can fly either or but subconsciously nearly always pick an anticlockwise pattern.

I dont have a preference....I can and do either.....That said, I maybe do one direction more than the other, but I couldnt tell you which one it was...
  For years, I used to fly without a neckstrap, now I cant do that....Im a thumber, tried pinch, didnt get on with it.....The neckstrap allows for a more sensitive feel, no question....but I did need to persist with it while I learnt it..

I have met some people over the years who can only fly a circuit in one direction, which is pretty shocking really....lol.

I CAN fly a circuit in either direction but the predominant wind direction at my normal site and a line of trees on the landing approach kind of forces you into an anticlockwise direction.

Once I have the goggles on my natural preference seems to disappear and I can fly either way. This is probably because using them is still very new to me.

My opinion on sticks is it's down to who taught you or how you started out on your own. Personally I am a thumber but I always teach pinch as on the competition and show flight lines that's what I have observed the top guys use, plus a tray, but I don't use a tray but do always use a strap. Xbox kids cannot get used to pinch!


Circuits: fixed wing I have no preference it's just down to wind direction over the flight line. Helicopter, I don't like either and struggle big time! Autogyro, I will always prefer a anti clockwise turn as that's the easiest with a gyro due to the spin of the blades.

Mode 2, pincer and fly the circuit depending on site and wind conditions. No preference to direction (LOS or FPV), never has been, never will be!
