Obviously it's as cheap as chips but I wonder if a small screen could be fitted into these as some sort of backup set of goggles?

I tried this with a similar set from Banggood, but it didn't work. The lenses are set up so that it needs your screen split into two, that's how the 3D effect works. So it only works with video sources that split the screen down the middle. I tried just watching normal video through it and it totally screws up your eyes unfortunately.
I'm assuming it's the same thing, might not be though.
Yea I was thinking it might be worth just pulling the innards out and installing a screen - the headset itself looks "okay" (in the pictures at least!)
That's what I mean though, it's the lenses that are the issue, so you would need to replace them as well as each lens is set up to focus on one half of the screen, rather than in the center. So you would need to rip them out also and find a way of fitting a fresnel lens or something similar.
Yea I get that -but still .. £6 for a headset that can be hacked into goggles for a few extra quid. We used to buy ski masks but maybe this will work too...
definitely worth a shot
I tried this with a VR One headset and my Samsung Galaxy 5 phone, not a separate screen. I used a USB OTG cable and a recommended EASYCAP USB device plugged into the OTG and then into the Samsung S5. Ideally get an OTG cable that allows you to charge the phone at the same time.
The EASYCAP took a video feed from my existing Fatshark goggles as a test and I searched for "FPV" software and also "USB camera" or "OTG" software on the Google Play store (there's plenty of it).
It worked surprisingly well, giving me a very wide field of view and very little latency. Whats nice is that you can also use this setup as a recorder too.
There are now all-in-one Video receivers to USB, the one I found was the LaserBGC which replaces the EASYCAP and the need to plug in to the parent goggles.
Steve W, I've converted VR goggles into fpv set just taken out the divider in the middle removed the focus lenses fitted a bang good 5" snow screen monitor and tx on the side works a treat and a stunning picture as well. Easiest way to mount is to take the screens case off, keep the front part grind off the sun shade on the front and hot glue it in place then hot glue the screen on , I put a 4x fresnel lens in where the focus lens was and all works a treat.
That's what I'm talking about - awesome.
