Title: How to use ALL the FPV frequencies in one setup
Post by: BlueFlyer on January 04, 2017, 01:09:43 AM
I'm only starting this thread as a bit of a brain storming exercise.

Having now drastically reduced the size and weight of the equipment on my MFD AAT's tracking arm, I'm contemplating some experiments and welcome any thoughts or ideas.

The plan bouncing around in my head is to have both my EzUHF TX module, and my 1280 Lawmate VRX on the tracking arm.

I have a lightweight and compact 1280 Yagi on the lawmate, and think a moxon on the UHF would be the most appropriate antenna.

Then we have the issue of how to get the PPM signal from the Taranis to the EzUHF module.... I was thinking of using a small PPM receiver like the D4R-ii and having a 2 way relay station.

Hence the title... There'll be 2.4GHz going from my Taranis to the D4R, PPM wires to the EzUHF, UHF to the plane, 1.2 from the plane to the receiver, video wires to a 5.8VTX 5.8GHz from the tracker to my goggles.

sounds stupid, and probably really selfish too... quite literally no-one else could fly within 5km of me :)

Check for any excessive latency in RC link. Thought about a set up like this some years back but was 35mHz from Tx to relay station Rx then ppm from relay Rx to UHF Tx.

Putting your shouty UHF Module alongside your 1280 Video receiver does not sound like a very good idea to me Blue TBH.

Apart from having the Bulky Moxon on your tracker, why bother with the additional complexity?....Just use it on your Taranis, pretty sure you can point it at your plane. Or just use a decent UHF Dipole, which you can orientate well without a fancy mounting bracket on your Transmitter.

I considered it at one point but just couldn't be bothered with it in the end. This video may be useful if you go ahead with it:

Ignoring interference issues- it seems like an additional failure point to me.

An interesting idea but sounds like a lot of hassle to me.
