Title: Laminating Wings
Post by: dp106 on July 24, 2017, 02:15:31 PM
I'm in the process of build a new Flying Wing and contemplating using sticky spray before applying the laminate.  Laminate is great and adds a lot of strength but after a while it will start to come unstuck and need re-ironing.  This is annoying in itself but I was going to use coloured tape over the laminate rather than spray paint the foam so re-ironing won't really be an option.

I've tested a small square of foam and it seems to work well.  Once dry the bond seems really solid compared to just laminating alone.  It does leave the foam looking yellowy so coloured tape over the top is most likely going to be essential.

Having not tried it before I'm just wondering if anyone else has any experience of doing this?

I recently used tape on a wing a friend cut out of polystyrene for me. I used spray mount to prime it as it didn't melt the foam at all, was this one.

The tape then stuck down really firm to the surface. I did try spry adhesive before that on an off cut and it basically dissolved the foam.
Hope that helps Cheers Steve
