Title: AKK Ultimate VTX's, a rather scary 1200mw of power !
Post by: CurryKitten on July 03, 2018, 02:37:29 PM
I took a look at the ultimate VTX's from AKK.  So called because their power range goes up to the dizzying heights of 1.2W!  Would you ever need this much power... of course not.  Happily enough these also can swap between 25/200/600/1200 - what was quite impressive is that the picture remained constant throughout the power ranges.  I've had many a VTX which has a lovely picture on 25mw and then have interference lines when the power went up to 200mw.  Here's a video -

Aside from the 1200mw which I don't ever see myself using aside from this test, I thought the VTX's worked well, and were nice and cheap to boot.

I've just been watching a video on the AKK FX2 and others being tested for mW output.

Its output was completely abysmal.

25mW setting was 9mW
200mW setting was only 140mW
800mW setting was a laughable 211mW

Looks like those "Ultimate" wont be worth buying and a complete bullshit power claim lol

Do you have an RF meter to confirm this Wayne ?

I'd be happy to test them - but an RF meter is something I don't have, and a bit of a luxury item for me to buy at the mo... and sadly, nobody is chucking one at me to review it :)

As everything seems to be coming along with multiple VTX power outputs and implementing smart audio/tramp protocol, it would be useful to test.

I've heard 2 anecdotal stories concerning AKK.  One suggested that the 25mw was actually outputting way to higher power, and this caused issues in a race, and the other is that it's not outputting enough.  Actually there's a 3rd about them different power outputs depending on the band/channel

Yeah all seems to be all over with the opinions of the brand now.

I sold my meter a few weeks ago because I never used it - Ah the irony :)

Immersion stuff varies based on the band/channel as well so it's not just AKK

Boscam VTXs are just the same, although the older ones are far more robust than these built to a price Quad vtxs.
The Boscam TS832 varies wildly in RF output depending on which channel you select.

The AKK vtxs are built down to a price and for the Quad market which is fiercely competitive.  The RF outputs have been proven to be, shall we say optimistic by AndyRC.

My Z84 has an old 600mw Boscam VTX, they are reliable tho...

Apart from my Immersion gear I've started using the TX526 25/200/600mw vtxes - they're tiny and the video quality is good. Think I paid £14 shipped

Now interestingly I have come across this review, its foreign so no idea what the guys says, but the results are interesting as he swaps bands and adjusts the meter to find that on 5950MHz on R8 it's actually peaking at 1.02 Watts !

Skip to 8 mins to see the output on same settings between bands

That is impressive, a massive ( over 500mW ) improvement over other channels and bands. So I think to get the most from these Vtx's you really do need a RF meter and test each out to see where the sweet spot is.
