Impressive flying!

Re. the comments, my experience with small cams on things with motors too is, the firmer the fixing the better; I think cameras are most sensitive to amplitude of vibration, which is minimised if things are tight, and made worse if the camera is bouncing around on something, er, bouncy.

In my, limited, experience of aerial video you need to have:

1.suspension to absorb the inevitable vibration AND
2.damping to stop it all going BOING, BOING  all the time

bit like in a car..

most people tend to refer to "shock absorbers"..... but, let's be right... the springs absorb the shock & the dampers do just that, damp the tendency of springs to go BOING BOING.(ever driven a car with springs but no dampers?? Whew!!)
Also you need to keep the unsuspended weight as low as possible.

On my MK, the suspension is a sort of cradle consisting of a frame with elastic webbing & the dampers are a pair of CF rods fixed lightly at the "fuse"

I got the idea from looking at Draganfly pics
looks odd
but...
Point is, it works.

I will post pics if you like, tomorrow...hard to see it on a conventional single rotor heli though. anyway, so much KE in a big rotor the vibration problem is always going to be there...also in a piston engine .

Some pics of the Spider Web of elastic, together with CF rods attached firmly but not rigidly to the U/C legs.

Any old elastic won't do, has to be Hat elastic or Knicker elastic!

Im thinking of FPV`in my Raptor 50, i dont know what to expect from a heli side of flying, whats the style like ?

Is it easy to get use to straight off ?

The part that concerns me is hovering, with not much depth in goggles view can you pick up wether your drifting easily or not ?

It's not easy, I had a go and I was saved by my Helicommand I haven't flown since I lost sight in my right eye for a while and the heli is up for sale as you may know. I found that the decent was the one thing you must get right. I think the best is to have a go and see.

Looking to get my Spectra up and running with a camera soon then FPV.  Think I need a very good anti vibration system though as it's a gasser.

I've got a helicommand on ebay and have installed a KDS Flymentor on it for added stability/security - hands off and it levels is the idea - also might enable me to temporarily look at taking photos.

Hi All

Well having dusted the T-Rex for sale I'm once again interested in it, so I've got two camcorders working now without them shutting down "I read the destruction manual only to find that I can switch the standby mode on and off", "doh".
Since I'm powering the cameras from a lipo though a power regulator it also means that the camera will not shut down too soon due to the voltage dropping, one camera shut down around 3V but driving it with a 12V 2200mAh will keep it going for longer than any one FPV flight.

The G-Shot DV5122 is 125g, 6V dry cell, I'm powering it with 5V and its' quite happy. The Vivitar DVR 518 is 100g rated at 4.5V dry cell and that has no issue so far with 5V. The picture and light response is excellent; I will do a video as soon as I get time.

The regulator is this one.

Very nice just been doing my heli this afternoon, ready to rock n roll now :)

Good to see you got the cam sorted, i wouldn part with the heli either, you loose loads of money and after a while you jump back on them and realise how much fun ( read frustration :) ) they are :)

Too right Coyote, you do loose too much. I've just got to make a video lead for both cameras, one is 3.5mm jack and the other is 2.5mm so it off to my local Maplin out let. So what gear have you got on your Rappy also how about some pictures?

Regards

Ah you cant beat a bit of Maplins buying, love going in there, end up spending a fortune. Go in for one jack plug end up coming out with chips, swtiches, cables lol

The Rappy this week is sporting a 2.4ghz Video Tx mated to a homemade Bipole Tx antenna, Blackstork OSD, running off a 3 cell 2200 mah lipo, Turnigy 5A UBEC and Dragonlink Rc control.

Its done apart from 6 wires need soldering but da da dah ! I need to go to you guess..................... Maplins :) Ive ran out of heat shrink :)

Will post some piccys up in a bit

Ok here is a short clip from this morning test flight, this is the Vivitar DVR 518 the T-Rex has been sitting around for a long time and I had put it up for sale on eBay but it's had a reprieve. Like with any 50 size heli camera weight of 100g is like flea on an elephants arse  ;D

Hi all

Some may be wondering how far I've got with the T-Rex 600 after the very encouraging footage recently; well I've had some set back with really bad video noise that I didn't have before. I've ended up stripping and rewiring and even changed the OSD but no luck. I thought over it all and left it for the other little projects in hand, then a thought came to me about not having included the brand new motor "35 min flight"; I've removed it and to my surprise the motor squeaks when I turn it by hand I've oiled it but it still dry squeaks.

How do I get into it? Has anyone ever dismantled one of these motors?

Has any one come across this and could this be the source of my video interference? I've got the old motor but no pinion gear; the gear actually failed but I was lucky I spotted it during a pre-flight check.
The larger motor is the new one although it's been in the heli for around 20 months.

i dont think i could fpv my raptor. i think it would end in tears as my raptor has been upgraded to the max and stands me £1500
