Title: Just back from maiden flight with fy31-ap
Post by: markvanhaze on May 29, 2012, 07:44:15 PM
Miracle oh miracle, I put it all in, headtracker, ezUHF and FY31 with Hornet OSD and it all worked. I even tried circling and RTL and my baby came back.

But here two questions:
1. For my failsafe on the ezUHF, am I correct to adjust the throttle to 50% and have RTL engaged? Is that how you make sure your plane comes back even if the UHF link goes down?

2. When in ABM the plane flies like on rails and turns equally hard. Often I find myself pulling the stick completely in one direction just to make the plane bank at approx 35%. Is that normal or can I make it a bit more responsive?

Yes set throttle to cruise speed + a bit more to combat wind ( so not necessarily 50% could be more )

I found the same the other day, I needed full stick inputs to get very little movement. That's normally a sign of too higher gain but even with gain turned down I was still fighting it

Cant help with the fy specifically but be very careful with RTL being triggered with loss of signal.
Although that is right, just be careful that if you accidentally switch off your tx on the ground(or switch on the rx before the tx) then the throttle will suddenly go to 1/2 as commencement of rtl...

Yes, been there  ;D The plane just wooshed from the workbench, straight nosedive onto the stone floor.

Another thing I noticed - since I have FY31 in between the ezUHF rx and my servos, overall I think the servos do not respond as smoothly/linear as when connected straight to the rx. With the FY31 set to RC mode, that is.
Are you experiencing the same?

So today I went the same route, latest ezUHF firmware and got as far as 3km. I had one failsafe warning but that was it. I think its better now but I hav eyet to give it a proper distance test - maybe tomorrow.
