Title: Anyone fancy a fly at Man Tor or Stanage Edge near Sheffield for some FPV?!?
Post by: Teamftp on July 23, 2012, 08:44:37 AM
I am going out to Stanage Edge and Man Tor soon to get some nice videos etc with my Skywalker X8 and DJI F450 Quadcopter.

Would be great if some others could pop along??!?!

Thinking about this weekend maybe or during next week one evening?!?!

Let me know what you think.

Ta

Simon.

Would love to join you but live in Taunton now, so not very handy.
When I went to University in Sheffield I used to hang glide every weekend around Stanage and Man Tor. It would be a really fantastic place to fly FPV. Would you be able to fly the gorge down from Man Tor? I can't remember if you can see it all from the top.

keep us updated as to when

Aitch

Was hoping for this weekend (Saturday being the best option i think) indeed depending on the wind situation.

Today would be perfect but the darling wench has me on DIY duty..... damn it.... may sneek off to the flying club later though!!

Winds are predicted at 13mph on Saturday but hopefully they will not get that high.... i will keep my eye out and let you know Friday.

If you go to Stanage Edge, watch out for the RC gliders at Callow Bank, maybe call on them first to see what the weather is like

Going tonight to have a fly over (probably into) Man Tor if anyone wants to pop along. Taking the Skywalker X8 and the DJI F450 Quad.... oh and my trusty GoPro.

Yep its 'Mam' Tor lol. Lovely place although Ive not been down there in well over 15 years! Are there many flyers in the Sheffield/Barnsley area (I live in Wombwell)? If so Id love to meet up sometime to pick some brains or fly... if I ever get my finger out and purchase something. Im sort of intending to buy a quad in the next couple of weeks, possibly with an FPV setup, however Im a complete noob so doing my research first and annoying people by asking silly questions ;)

My possible intentions are to get a DJI F450 kit with Naza+GPS. Im going to build and set it up myself, I thought I may as well go through the steep learning curve process and learn it properly. With regards to FPV gear, I havent got a clue! I will probably be seeking the advice of you guys and the chappy at www.firstpersonview.co.uk (http://www.firstpersonview.co.uk) Ive heard hes a mine of info and a top fella too.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Richard.

Thanks TeamFTP, I will do. Im away working at the moment and dont get back until the second week in October at which time... hopefully the gear I eventually order will be waiting for me. Still not finalised what Im getting yet... Im still torn between the F450 and F550 and the NAZA and Wookong. If I get the Wookong it blows out any thoughts of FPVing for a while though.

All kind of depending what your wanting to do with it all. The Naza is great and very stable. The wookong is more if you are wanting to do commercial stuff or proper show off

I have the F450 and my friend has the F550. The 550 is more stable in clam but the 450 is better in wind.. again depends what you want it for. 550 can lift more...ish.

I'd think about getting the F450, naza and some good FPV gear.

forget the wookong for fpv. it really doesn't offer any features over the naza unless you shell out at least another 180£ for the telemetry addon and the waypoint upgrade.

Hmmm, I had suspected as much. I have plans to do commercial work in the future (maybe) depends on the angle that I have in mind being practical and being required by the client companies. However, bigger systems will be required for that.

I was wanting something relatively cheap and decent to learn on initially, but with possibility of expansion further down the line, unfortunately the F450 and F550s load capacity isnt great. I think I can get an NEX 5n onto the F550, although how long it flies and how stable it is I have no idea.

I think I will just bite the bullet and go for the F450 initially and have it as my fun copter.

Im possibly thinking of getting a glider as well, for more prolonged flights, any recommendations?

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I am thinking of some possible commercial work in the future. This would probably require the Telemetry option. Its all 'ifs' 'ands' and 'buts' now anyway, I will go with the Naza to start with and get some hours under my belt..... and have some fun! :)
