My mate is a jet fanatic and he decided to install the FY31 into his jet. When flying it we have the AER values around 0000 except when the plane banks. In strong turns we hit the 1000 mark at which it stops counting upwards. Once the plane comes out of the banking, its back to 0000.
Vibrations are not an issue since we have no increase of the AER on full throttle straight flight, taxiing, etc.
So we are guessing its simply a matter of G-forces and that the FY31 simply is not capable to deal with such forces.
Are we right there? If so, is there an autopilot/stabilizer that could deal with this? Cost is not so much of an issue here.
Yeah I think your right, theaccelerometers arn`t designed for high G`s really
I haven't used the FY31 on jet but I have used simple heli type gyros on all 3 axis with considerable success. My favourite is the Futaba GY401 (or the 601 if you want to spend a bit more) - very easy setup, great results and available very cheaply now as most of the heli flyers have stopped using gyros.
I had one on the rudder/steering servo to keep the nose wheel straight on take off and one on elevator for pitch control and another on the ailerons for roll. Once the gains are dialled in properly the resulting flight was absolutely rock steady and flew like it was on rails. (This was a F16 with a Jetcat 120 - quite capable of pulling 12g - never a problem with the gyros).
The secret to success is using the right mounting pads - too soft or too hard = problems - just right takes some trial and error.
That sounds like a good solution but I also would like the RTL (autopilot to launch) option.
Ah - I thought it was just for stabilisation.
